Maybe we could all take up a collection and get you a vasectomy.

The tithing is something you do for your community. If you don't participate in the community, you can't expect in all justice to get help if you ever need it.
If you're having trouble making the rent, advise your rabbi or priest of the situation. You could substitute volunteer hours for money contributions. But in that case, you don't need to be buying Chardonnay. Mogen David will do. And you can get free condoms at health clinics and HIV prevention groups.

I have a hard time believing that God demands 10% down with a 100% return. It is the church asking for the money not God. Not that it is a bad thing to invest in your community and your church but lets get real. Tithing should be something you do because it feels right-just like believing. If I had to chose between tithing and rent/food for myself and my children, I would chose the latter and from what I have read God would probably forgive me.

Well if you tithe then it will come back to you 10 fold. So yes there is sense in giving 10%. Besides by the look of you there is no need for condoms.

If you believe in GOD like I do and read the bible. Then you would know, if you give a 10% of your earnings and give with a joyful heart he will provide for you abudantly. More than you can handle.
I have done this before and trust me, its worth it. I try to give 10% each month, but sometimes i really cant because of circumstances. He knows you heart.
If you are trying to mess about with the touchy subject like this i suggest you get a life. (Condoms and Chardananay) Like they are Necessities.

Its a karma thing. You give, you get.
You'll find that if you tithe, you'll be blessed.
I've seen it a million times.
You don't have to tithe money, you can tithe your time by volunteering, donating stuff you don't need to people who do, etc.
Its about being caring, loving, and doing what you can to make the world a better place.

If you don't consider the Church a necessity then do your own thing until you discover too late how necessary it actually was. If you recognise the Church as a life giving necessity, then support it. We support far less important organizations, which merely improve the quality of earthly life. How much more should we support the Church Christ gave us to serve as the means of finding eternal life.

Malachi 3:8 " Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed me. But you say how have we robbed you? In tithes and offerings." In the Old Testament it talks alot about giving the 10th in which really isnt asking for much.

Most TV preachers are on the Forbes 400 list of richest men in America. When the nation gave 10% that was taxes for the public good. Now when you give 10% it is to one of the richest organizations in the world.
Poor people giving to the richest Americans hardly makes you a christian. They want you to think that, but that is just stupid.
Matthew 7:23 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expell demons in your name and perform many powerful works in your name? Yet then I will confess to them. I never knew you get away fro me you workers of lawlessness.
So if God feels that way about them do you believe he rewards you for giving them more money?
Probably get more kodo's with God if you gave to the cancer society.

I wonder how much of that 10% really goes to helping those less fortunate,as opposed to how much is used to maintain and staff the church? Personally I would rather give money directly to people that I had chosen. To answer your question I will have to say no, it does not make any sense to me.

I took your last question seriously, but now it seems that you are trying to be funny! What you joke about is a serious matter to some people. And tithing is a resposibility, not a gift.
