There are Churches all over the world. Only Saudi Arabia, Libya and some other Islamic countries do not allow Churches to be built.
Then they say Allah means God.
In some towns (Luton) in the UK there are half a dozen Mosques within walking distance of one another.
What is wonderful is that every now and then they have dispute about who controls the running of the Mosques and the Police have to be called to separate the parties.
Islam is peaceful, my foot.
They should be banned in the UK, just for this reason alone.

Yes Saudi Arabia feels that although their religion tells them that they must respect The People of The Book ( The Bible and The Torah), they cannot allow any outward signs of other religions to be built. Mecca being the seat of their religion.
You are not allowed to import Bibles or I guess any other religious materials into Saudi Arabia.
However, most other Muslim countries respect others rights. in one part of India they have found the perfect solution by having Muslim caretaker for a Christian Church , a Christian for a Hindi Temple and so on.

There are many countries where simply being Christian will get you killed. They would never even think of building churches. Strangely enough, Christianity grows more quickly in those countries than it does in most Western ones (The U.S. included). Britian may appear predominantly Christian, but church attendance is so low that they are recruiting people from the U.S. to try to get things going again. I have friends that almost moved over there to help out.

agree with dragonrider. if you check out the Hagia Sophia in Turkey, it used to be a church but muslims took over and instead of razing it to the ground or ripping out christian motifs they simply whitewashed them and put up their own religious symbols in difft areas, so still respecting the place of the previous imagery. (they had to cever images b'cos images not allowed in places or prayer). anyway years later the building is now a museum and whatever they used as a whitewash had some protective elemnents in it so christian iconic images are way more well preserved than they would have been if they had just been left as they were. Now you go in to this magnficinet building and you see Christian images of christ and the virgin mary and child next to huge plaques commemorating the the prophet of Islam etc.
also, loads of countries have churches and accept difft faiths - on a community level its usually about accepting not 'allowing'. its politics that mars it all..

This is partly true, there are Christian churches in some Muslim countries, when these countries used to be Christian. But you try building one in this day and age and you will not be allowed to.
Countries such as Saudi, Libya, Iran etc will not recognise any other religion except Muslim.

I'm not sure about this, but my sister-in-law just came back from Israel and there is a place that you are not allowed to pray, because Muslims are afraid that you will pray to a Christian God. if you are found to have your head bowed or even look like you are praying.. you can get into serious trouble. can you believe this?! being so, I would say that it's true about building Christian churches in a Muslim community.

In certain countries like England and here in the U.S. there is a thing called freedom of religion. We also have separation of church and state. In most predominantly Muslim countries these do not exist. That is basically the reason for the difference.

It doesn'tapply to all Muslim countries but I've heard some rather interresting stories about some that were built in Iran. Not sure if there's any truth to it though.
