Indeed there was a time when Jap car manufacturers were boycotting Israel, to be liked by the ?Arab states, and it was the only Japanies car sold in the country. I was chipper than the europian and american cars and considerd to be very reliable, not too fancy, simple working.
This led to an effect where every car mechanic knew the car very good and there were many cheap spare parts for the cars.
This made the car even more reliable and cheap to maintain.
There are still many 1985-1992 "Leone" models on the roads in Israel, and some pickup trucks from the early eighties
(Those pickup trucks are considered by some people to be better than a hammer, and surprisingly enough their price has raised in the last year, which make them an antique).
Today there is even an "Old Subaru" owners club.

As usall,a superior stupid question, however the ans. to this would be that in Israel, the owners of subaru's have probably drank too much chivas regal scotch, which impaired their thinking, when they bought the car.I believe the price of the car is equivilient to the price of a 750ml of chivas.hope this answers your question.

They are very flimsy and ideal for using in car bombing as thin steel chassis dosen't contain the blast.
