Hi there...consider using cat boarding hotels or catteries that will take care of your future prospective kitty. There are also petsitting services who will come to your home to care for your pets, however I wouldn't do this unless you are able to check this person's business references extensively as there are plenty of dishonest pet caretakers.

Here's an example of one pet hotel: http://www.waghotels.com/?gclid=CLy08eKWhYgCFQgsGAodyFC5Xw

If you go away a lot , for more than just a day or two, you shouldn't get a cat at all. If you are just talking about the normal quota of holidays etc., the best way is to have someone look after your cat in it's own home. I have two cats who keep each other company if I'm away, and I also have a lovely cat sitter who feeds them and plays with them. Catteries would be a last resort for me as one of my cats is very timid and would just be terrified away from home. You would have to get to know your kitty, and try the options. If you have someone who can cat sit and house sit at the same time, then that would be perfect!

Nice choice of Pet
I have had cats for years, if you go on holidays or away to college whatever, you could put them in a cattery, where they can be looked after. Or if they are like my two, they might prefer to stay at home, if that is the case then you could ask a neighbour if they would mind looking after them until you get back, however if that is not possible then you could always get a pet minder to look after them.

Ask at your local veterinary surgery or check the local adds.
What ever you decide to do good luck and I wish you and your cat the best of health and happiness for years to come

have a friend or neighbor stop by and check on the cat once a day. or if you really have no one to care for the animal you can hire a pet sitting service to come in once a day and check on food and water scoop litterbox and play with the cat. there are some kennels that take cats but i think cats would rather be at home then go into a kennel for a few days

You could put it in a cattery if your not going away for to long but there very exspenive ask around, havent you a friend who will look after it
It isnt nice for the cat to be alone all the time,If your away a lot do not bother.

For 24 hours you can leave it at home (food, water and litter to be supplied of course).
For absences of anything more than 24 hours, either a kind neighbour or relative to come in and feed it, change its water, pet it, and clean/refill the litter tray.
OR you can take it to an approved cattery - far the best alternative because your cat will be safe, well looked after, fed correctly and, if necessary, will receive vet attention in your absence.

You could look for catteries in the yellow pages.

Maybe go into your local veterinary surgery and see if they have details for any pet-sitters. Pet-sitters often leave promotional leaflets in veterinary surgeries and could either look after the cat in your home or you take it there.

Well done for being thoughtful enough to think things through before getting a pet. The cat will be lucky to have you.

ARe you talking about going away fro the weekend? or for weeks? There are lots of places you can board cats. Or you can aske someone to pet sit. If it is just over the weekend and your cats wouldn't just eat until the food is gone. LEave a clean litter bbox and some extra food and water. They are fairly self seficiant. if you are leaving for more that a day or to they really should have someone check in on them.

Well, how long are you out of town each time? A cat will be fine for a weekend. We've gone out-of-town for up to a week before. We did have someone checking on them, but I just put extra food & water out. The person checking on them just made sure that they didn't somehow knock over their waterer (the kind that looks like a mini water-cooler) or vomit in their food (although they did vomit on my pool table!!!). My 3 cats have each other, though, so I don't worry about them being lonely.

If you go out-of-town often, maybe getting 2 cats is the answer. They will keep each other company. All they need is extra food & water, and they would be fine.

You can ask a friend or neighbour to pop in and feed your cat once a day.
You can pay for a pet sitter to visit your home and spend some time with your cat (my cats never appreciated this and ignored my enthusiastic petsitter - she ended up just leaving food out for them!)
You can book your cat in with a good cattery service. They will board your cat. Some cats take well to this and treat it like a holiday - some do not like it and prefer to stay at home with someone leaving food for them.

We have timed food dishes, 2 automatic water fountains, and an automatic litter box so that our nine indoor cats don't need a sitter if we want to go out of town for the weekend. For longer trips, we do need a cat-sitter, plus it's good to have someone keeping an eye on the house anyway.
