NEVER LYSOL - it contains phenol which is toxic to cats!
After you empty the box, clean it out with dishsoap (or whatever), and rinse. Then use 1:32 bleach to water. Fill the box up to the top with this and let it sit 15-20 minutes (the bleach kill the germs). Then rinse it out very well & dry or airdry.
The 1:32 means 1 part bleach to 32 parts water, or one ounce bleach to a quart of water. That's what's recommended. I just put in a "bunch" of bleach & add water to fill.
If you want to get "fancy" you can buy disinfectants for this. Here are some links:

Litter boxes are filthy. Make sure you wear gloves while cleaning your cat's litter box so that you don't get sick. Here's what we do: 1. Dump all dirty cat litter into a bag and dispose of it properly.
2. Take the litter box outside and hose it out.
3. Take some mild detergent and scrub it with a brush.
4. Hose it out again.
5. Wipe it down with diluted bleach on a sponge and let sit wet for about 15 minutes or more. Rewipe with bleach water as needed to keep surfaces wet.
6. Rinse with fresh water and spray surfaces with Lysol.
7. Refill with litter and you're good to go! Clean, fresh, and disinfected against most bacteria and viruses.

Some house hold cleaners are bad for cats so I just use soap and water. Usually liquid dish soap and rinse well. If bleach mixes with the ammonium from the urine you will have a nasty gas that burns your eyes and throat. Don't use bleach.
