In my city there was a small disabled boy put in a burning , locked shed by a group of children ages 7 to 10. They proceeded to run in circles around the shed screaming and laughing. This attracted some adults who saw the flames then ran and heard faint screams of the child laying inside the smoke filled shed. The police can't arrest these children because they are under the age of 12. What do you think is the answer?

I say yes they should as juveniles and when they turn 18 be sent to jail for 2 -5 years also both parents should go to jail for at least 5 years If parents would take the time to teach simple things to there children the world wouldn't be in a mess like it is today. I would not do for me to be the Judge of that case. I have seen alot of this kind of thing happening In alabama kids killing kids It really is sad what this would is coming to. All this hate and killing over what alittle money, food, sex,etc.................a person is not replaceable but earthly things are. I put my life on the line every day and what do most people do hate the police , but when they need us they love us what in Sam H*ll is up with that just B/C we may give you a little $95 speeding ticket don't break the law and you want get that $95 ticket.....DUH people

Assuming this is true, then a crime has been committed, so criminal charges could be brought. A juvenile court judge should handle it. Personally, given this scenario, I don't think criminal punishments should apply since the child is o.k. and the ages were only 7-12. But if the child had suffered permanent injury, or died, and the ages been say, 12-14, then yes in my opinion criminal (adult) charges should be brought, and a judge should sentence.

The police are only responsible for investigating the incident, it is up to the prosecutor or DA to determine if any criminal charges are going to be filed. The DA can file to have the kids tried as adults in criminal court. Otherwise a law known as infancy governs kids under certain ages. You can find out more about "infancy" by doing some research on it through your local codes. In a nutshell, it means that kids under a certain age are not responsible for their actions and therefore not prosecutable.

I have a sister that is 12, and I can tell you know that she, and all other 12 year olds I know, do know the differance between right and wrong. I think it is important to give them a punishment, but I don't think that it should be as severe as an adult charged with the same crime.

I believe it should depend on the severity of the crime, not the age. To put a disabled boy in a burning shed I would consider a very severe crime and if they aren't charged and placed in juvenile detention they will only get worse as they grow older, you can't just slap their hand, the next time it could be you in the burning shed!

Yes. At that age, they no the difference between right and wrong. I would also go one step further in this and have the parents investigated as well. What the hell are they teaching their children about respect, honesty and fair play.

Just where do you live anyway? Just want to make sure I don't move there by mistake..........

first i don't think it should matter if the child was disabled he is a child all the same.and the children 7 or 5 knew what they were doing when they locked the door and went around in circles laughing and screaming.i think the parents should have to pay the little boys parents for the doctor bill and for his pain.then the children should go to some kind of boot camp.

The psychological trauma for the child in the shed would be very great in that situation and punishment must be brought on the offenders. However, simple punishment may not really bring the message home that their actions were unacceptable and why they were unacceptable.

There should be juvinile laws that can be brought to bear on the offenders.

One must examine the intent of these kids. We cannot take their word for it because they may lie. If a child attempts to commit murder, as these have done, they must be tried in court. It is up to a jury to decide. Your police officers have committed a crime by not doing their duty that they have been sworn to do, therefore they also have consequences to face, the attempted cover up of the alleged crime.

Yes, these children have rights. They have the Miranda Rights. Have they been read to them?
