I happen to have an hourglass figure where my waist is quite small in comparison to my hips ( waist: 24" / hips: 38")

Is this really the 'ideal figure' or is it just something that has got out of control? Most people I meet seem to be facinated by it like theyve never seen anyone with those proportions before - especially women who mention it the most.

I gotta say I do get these funny looks from girls when they are with their man as if they think i'm gonna steal their man or something (im just assuming)

What I wanna know is do all men like this in a girl? And do all women wish they had this figure?

An hourglass figure is where your bust and hips are about the same measurement and your waist measurement is smaller.

I'm pear shaped, I think both hourglass and pear shaped are good shapes. Take care : )

I think i'm an hourglass too....

Boobs and bum because although I.m not big hipped, i do have a round bum....and no not like J.Lo's...
If anything...I'm older than J.Lo so she has an Audrey bum!!

I do get a pasting from the guy's at work about my figure...All in good fun and taste, but if I never had the dry, witty sense of humour that I have, I don't think it would matter what i looked like or what shape I am....There has to be more than just appearences.

On the down side...its a nightmare trying to get trousers, especially jeans to fit when your waist is smaller than your bottom...I hate when my jean gap at the back when I sit down.

I have an hourglass figure but the magic isn't in just having an hourglass figure but it all being in proportion. The balance according to scientists is a hip to waist ratio of 0.7 (waist measurement divided by hip measurement).

Most playboy centrefolds, supermodels, yes including Kate Moss, and Marilyn Monroe fit into this ratio.

As do I.

No and no.

Of course not all men like that figure and of course not all women wish they had it. People are all very different and that includes their taste. Some men love curvy women. Some men prefer very thin women. Just as some men prefer blondes and some prefer red heads. I happen to have an hourglass shape. I have a tiny waist in comparison to my hips. My husband loves this. But I prefer athletically thin. I'd rather not have hips.

Maybe the fascination with hourglass figures stems from that fact that you don't see it much anymore as everyone in Hollywood opts for the stick look. Obviously not all men like hourglass and not all women wish for it or we'd be seeing it more often in magazines and in the movies.

I have a small waist and big hips and I love being curvy! I envy my size six girlfriends sometimes but others, its great because I can get away with clothes that they can't and vice versa. I am glad my big bum is in proportion to my big boobs! I know what you mean about women giving you the evils but hey, men look either way, whether we are skinny or curvy. Of course i have hang ups about my body, I'm female for crying out loud! But when my other half runs his hands over my curves, I never feel sexier! x

It's not overrated. Women spend most of their time shopping trying to find the looks that will give them the appearance of an hourglass figure.
I think most people think it's the "ideal figure" mainly because you are balanced, instead of top or bottom heavy. Most clothing is made for women with an hourglass figure. Many of the "most beautiful" women have had hourglass figures.
I think most men like it, and most women wish they were built like that.
So be happy with what nature gave you, and show off those curves. Ignore any jealousy from other women who are insecure. Their problems shouldn't be yours. Any smart woman will admire you without letting petty feelings get in the way.

Its just a fad. It started when atlanta rap stars got big (when Lil Jon's "GET LOW" was popular). Its not as serious as it was then, though. Sorta like how every now and then its the trend to be super skinny.

Each guy likes what he likes and as does every woman have her own opinion of what perfection is. I know girls who want bigger breasts/smaller breasts or the lose 20 lbs or maybe have bigger shapely legs or wants a smaller butt.

In your situation, You should be careful of what type of boys you associate with because the majority will only want you for your body. Boys who hound you because of your shape are only ever going to like you because of it. Boys are NASTY. The best type of male is a christian man because hes into christianity and not on a set of titties or a booty.

Personally,
I think the best body is toned, not too skinny and GREAT legs. Take a look at the link

I too have an hour glass figure, and I am pleased with it, I do seem to get alot of attention from guys for it, although I do have a pretty face too lol x
Just be confident with yourself, don't worry about other girls, they have obviously got no self esteem if the think their guy is gonna run off, they probably think that about every girl who is within a meter of him!

Its all personal preference at the end of the day- if you're happy in your skin you will exude a certain confidence and that will be sexy. I love my curves and having an 'hourglass figure', and its always been much appreciated by my boyfriend and ex's- but there are loads of men out there that would prefer someone with a completely different shape.

Its in our programming to be attracted to the most healthy, fertile mate. You are lucky in that the hourglass figure indicates to boys somewhere deep down that you'd be good breeding material. Men thinking with the usual part of their anatomy!
