Well said.
We are a rather negative, dependant sort of nation. The Americans, on the other hand, are proud of themselves, and are brought-up to be positive. They aren't perfect, but they are better sorted than many of us. Our armed forces are second to none, and we should be supportive and pround of their capabilities.

You are confusing two very different issues.
The American support for their armed forces comes from their population having a vastly different ethnic mix to Britain and also the way they are conditioned from very young.
Remember they salute a piece of material before every school day or sports game and offer a pledge of allegiance to it and their country.
We are much more individualistic in our outlook.
The entire equipment and logistical support thing, has nothing to do with the feelings of the British people. There has been a culture of the upper class officer who serves his family history by fighting bravely under unsurmountable odds and of course winning, whilst his noble but not too bright squadie fights the good fight under his command.
Look no further back than the Batttle of Britain and Dunkirk for notable examples.
The powers that be, have their heads so firmly in the sand, which I guess is better than where they would otherwise be , that they cannot see that today's army is understaffed and under equiped.
By the way, some US troops have their equipment upgraded by supporters as well!

Britain's troops receive great support from the general UK population. I have never met anyone who is negative about the troops themselves. It seems that regardless of what people think of the government policies and actions the troops are highly regarded and people feel sorry for what they have to put up with.
The lack of logistical support and equipment is the product of a long period of reduced military support by the government. The general population do bear some blame as they do not support any proposed increase in military spending which handicaps any support that may have been on the cards.

I don't think America give more support to their armed forces then we do at all. Support for the Iraq war has fallen there just as it has here. Americans did not treat soldiers who fought in Vietnam well at all. In Britain, perhaps we are more reserved, but have you ever been to Rememberence Day in London in November? It is so moving and makes you see how much support we do actually give our armed forces. We are constantly reminded of the effects of war all the time and I think public support is always there. The only lack of support is from the government and the media.

lol Joseph, you got the countries mixed up. Theres is a subtle difference between hating a war and hating soliders. I have no problem with us being in Afghanistan, Sudan (ahh too late), BUT NOT IRAQ.
USA has an open wound left fom the vietnam and korean wars, which they have been trying to seal since. I can understand where the left in America is coming from when you look at Mai Lai and recently Haditha massacres that the culture hasn't changed.
Edit
At the end of vietnam war 150,000 soldiers ended up sleeping rough on the streets, so much for support. - care to reconsider.

americans are more likely to believe everything their government tell them,. and dont forget american news programs will not tell the people the whole truth for fear of losing ratings, so people are left with a feeling that their troups are really there to help the people of Iraq or Afganistan rather than the dubious reasons their government want to hide from them. Sadly the UK is heading in that direction

I think that the public as whole are fairly supportive of the UK armed forces. Support for the armed forces does not mean support for what may be seen as an illegal and unjust war.
The army is undoubtedly let down by the government who wish to see this final guarantor of our freedom weakened, demoralised, under equipped and far from home.

We have our cretins over here too that talk support, but vote down spending. We also have the liberals who want to take us to a socialist type government. Since the push is getting pretty hard, I'm assuming Moscow is losing patience with the Clinton's failures in making this happen.

Good point. Probably because of your Socialist System.
US Military has the best and most advanced equipment in the world.
But we have the looney left here also. They have taken over the Democrat Party.
Most of them don't hold jobs here, either.
They are little commies.

I think it is only fair to separate the politicians who send people to to war from behavior of the people serving their country by fighting either in or against the war. If one is for the war but against conduct of the troops fighting it that should be ok too.
For example you can be against members in the military committing war crimes and still think the war is being fought for good reasons and visa versa.
