Don't know what kind of family you are so can only guess at this recommendation for you - a place called .....wait for it -'SANDY BALLS'! (honest!) ...
it's located in the New Forest and is like a cross between a holiday venue and a camping venue - they have everything from log cabins to holiday caravans to luxury camping to ordinary camping, facilities for touring caravans and tents and campervans ,,,,,,,,, lots on site for the kids to do, a spar shop, gift shop, beauty salon, beauty therapies, hairdressers ...... and lots more - if you don't want to spend time on site then there's an awful lot around - just check their tourist office for information and leaflets - the staff are extremely helpful and the site itself is beautiful - look them up on the internet....

The South is lovely, you will enjoy wherever you go. I would suggest somewhere in the New Forest, you have wonderful locations just on your doorstep, for instance, Southampton, take a ferry across to the Isle of White for the day or weekend, Bournemouth is about 30 miles outside Southampton, you have Portsmouth, Brighton, or going further South East you could travel (2hours driving) down to Dorset and Cornwall. We have lovely beaches, (the weather has been really weird this month, so you may get some sun this time next year also), there are lots of historic castles and ruins to visit and look around. Enjoy

The South-West of England (the counties of Somerset, Dorset, Devon and Cornwall) are so picturesque and the south west has the best climate in the UK. All four counties are popular with British holidaymakers, as the south west is very rural and many of the places are so quaint. Visiting in October puts a beach holiday out of the question of course, because the temperature will make bathing impossible. You will, however, be able to sightsee, take walks and eat delicious food. Do visit the website below for plenty of info and I hope you will have a memorable holiday.

Hi you ourght to try Weymouth. Its not to big or small and there is alot of different thing to see like the Castle, Harbour with a river running through it. It has an indoor shopping centre, then a really nice beach, where there are kiddies activities like swings, 'Ye Olde Punch & Judy Show' and a person who builds Sand Sculptures. To the North of Weymouth is Dorchester, and to the south is Portland Bill (the island). Also faily close is Coffe Castle, Poole & Bournmouth.

STOP THE TRAIN! LISTEN TO ME!!!
honestly - spend a day or two in London and then go to devon and cornwall - one week in each. You will love cornwall - visit the Scilly Isles - they are like tropical islands - very beautiful - visit the eden project - St Ives - Surfing in Newquay (although in the summer it can get a but grubby with all the surfers) - Eat at Rick Steins restaurant in Padstow -
seriously - Cornwall is beautifull - i am from the north but its gorgeous there.
On the other hand - if you want to see true Britain - you could go to the lake district - apparently Brad and Jen almost moved there (way back when) - it is very very very beautiful - not as much to do but better scenery......
or you could do it all!! oh my god, u will love england, when i think about it w have a very special little country.

I would say anywhere between Eastbourne and Brighton, there are some nice beaches by the coast and a little bit inland there are lots of smugglers villages and some haunted villages too. We have more than our fair share of castles and then about 20 miles inland you have the Ashdown Forest, home of Winnie the Pooh and you can enjoy a game of Pooh Sticks.

Anywhere along the south coast from Eastbourne to Southampton. Places in the middle include Littlehampton and Bognor Regis both of which have places to go and places to see for the children - both in the towns and on the beach.
Used to live along here and had many visitors with children and they all enjoyed their time along this coastline.

I would recommend The Isle of Wight. Loads for kids to do and they will love the ferry ride.
There are two excellent reasonable priced theme parks that are really fun. Especially Blackgang Chine which is geared to appeal to a kids imagination.
There are plenty of seaside towns with indoor activities such a adventure golf and a dinosaur museum.
Highly recommended.

Depends on how far south you want to go but the best place I know for kids is Butlins @ Minhead. I would recomend going half board that way you get a break from cooking and cleaning as well and as the food on site is expencive unless you want cook stuff from scratch.

Try the New Forest, Close to Bournemouth and the surrounding areas, loads of room for kids to explore and run free...
There are some campsites in the forest and surrounding areas, there is one in Fordingbridge called "Sandy Balls" which is excellent, my parents stayed there and there are safe play areas for kids, the facilities are wonderful and the prices in the restaurants aren't bad either..
