The ending of the month signalling the beginning of eid will be done through sighting the new moon.

Im not sure if the saudis actually did that but the calendars show the new moon to be seen on the night of Oct 22 in turn making Oct 23 the first day of eid.

Please stay tuned to the news of sightings and keep an open eye for the new moon.

Saudis don't usually look for the moon to begin their month but sometimes calculations fall short.

I was in Saudi in Early 80s and lived there for five years. In one year they apologised and ordered all Muslims to have another fast after they celebrated Eid because they had only 28 fasts in Ramadan. Ramadan began one day late and on 28th the moon was so big that they had to celebrate Eid.

I am not surprised if samething happened this year also.

I am not sure about the Saudi government thing, but eid day for USA will be best to be seen at ones local Islamic center or isna.net the night before EID (depending on the EID day). Ramadan on Saturday 23 of Sept was some places and some places did it on the 24th Sunday. this way you can calculate 26 and 27th day, depending on what your local Islamic center did, peace
