and they wanted to get away from the silver and black look, what colours and style would you choose?

Personally i think matt colours can look nice coulditbemanilow, and you can always add silver or translucancy to them.

I'd go for a mixture of blue and orange probably (a la Intel). As you might know, blue denotes seriosity while orange is for fun -- so mixing the 2 of them certainly did the trick for Intel and it might work for that "somebody" too ;)

Gold was tried alot at one point never really took off but did look very nice as a matt metalic finish.

You could just try Matt colours like the grungy guitars they make these days might have a market???

What about earth and other natural colors and textures. Can you imagine a power amp that looked like a boulder? Or a receiver that reminded you of a tree?

Maybe you could get really bold and design something in an attempt to appeal to feminine tastes, perhaps in pink or pastels. Also, you could get away from the horizontal box look, maybe with more vertical, irregular shapes.
