What i would suggest is to set yourself a daily budget. i would say about $75.00 a day! This way You will not over spend and also know what is available to you! I hope that you have a lovely time and I would really recommend going to see the gardens at Tavern on the green ( its in Central park!) Its beautiful and the have ice sculptors in the winter! Go at night! Oh and ice skating at Rockefeller centre! Have the most amazing time! Its such a beautiful city!!!

Get online to the New York City Visitor's Bureau. They will send you lots of info and some discount coupons for attractions. You can also Check with AAA for recommended restaurants. If you are a member, they will send you a free guide.
NYC is very expensive for food, so try and stay away from hotel meals and restaurants in the heart of town. Everything else is about the same as in any other town. Shopping in stores like Macy's would be the same price as all their other locations.
Watch your valuables, do not travel with lots of jewelry and stay with your boyfriend. Keep safe.

It's an expensive place so i've heard ive not actually been to New York but have just booked to go for my 21st and valentines with my boyfriend. I'm looking at taking at least £100 for each day as i want to see all the attractions and maybe do some shoppin, the hotel im staying in provides a full breakfast thats one expense taken care off.

I depends if you want to go upmarket or not-there are infinite possibilities for spending money in NY even if you won't be shopping!!
That said I suppose about £35 pounds a day would cover you for basic lunch, reasonable dinners and sightseeing per day. That is of course because the Pound is so very very strong.
Make sure to look into the tourist options on Metro Cards for the subway7-as they are also valid on buses etc and subway trips can really add up

I was in New York three years ago and didn't find it prohibitively expensive (especially not in comparison to London, Dublin and Tokyo) eat simply and locally and you can't go wrong, and admission to sights like Empire State and MOMA were relatively cheap considering. As the pound is strong against the dollar still you can do a bit of shopping also without breaking the bank. Excellent city all round I think.

New York is one of the most expensive cites in the world.
If you not planning on doing much shopping, Food and transportation will eat up enough.

the main cost in NYC is the hotel, as you have paid that everything else is reasonably priced. public transport is cheap and lots of the sights can be reached on foot, central park is free and so is the fantastic buzz in the city

Lots and lots and lots and lots.
I was there in November last year and spent a fortune and could have spent even more if the funds had been available.
Next time I go I'll make sure my purse is very full.
