Hi.... I have 4 tattoos, 2 on my calf's , i on my back and 1 on my chest, and they do hurt getting them it is worth the pain. Pain in tattoos vary, depending on where you get them and how much pain a person can tolerate. Your lower back will hurt you around your spine area and your kidney area, but don't worry to much, the pain only lasts for a short period of time.
I love tattoos and am planning on getting a couple more soon. Show your boyfriend that he is wrong about you, go for it and remember that when you are feeling a lot of pain, breath deep and exhale. If you keep doing that it helps get through the pain.

I got a tattoo on my ankle as an 18th birthday present to myself. It's a celestial design, and I love it. I've thought about getting another one, but haven't been able to make up my mind where I want to put it or what I want.
It hurts, especially when they dig the needle in in some spots. But on the ankle it was clench-your-teeth kind of pain, not anything big. Afterward, it just felt like a bad sunburn for about a week or so. I can't say how it will feel at the base of the spine. There are a lot of nerves there. Reach around and pinch that spot with your fingernails. How does that feel?
Otherwise, if you really want it there, take some ibuprofin before you go in. That might help.

Hi! Tattoos do hurt, especially if you aren't "well insulated".
(By this I mean have very little subcutaneous fat.)
The closer to the bone, the more they hurt, but you will be fine. After a few minutes you become "numb to the pain". Think of a happy place!
I have three a Calvin on my deltoid, a lurking black panther on my shoulder blade (that felt real good!) and the panther is covering up a name (that was really painful in more ways than one!)
I love tattoos too, within reason. And the small of the back tattoos on the women (aka "TRAMP STAMP") well, they used to be cool, but (my opinion here) don't do it! They aren't so cool anymore.
We used to see one and think how cool it looked, now I see them and start thinking very bad thoughts about the person who's wearing it, and I don't even know them! It's not fair to judge, I know but have some dignity.
My wife thinks she wants a tat (she has never had one), possibly a "Tramp Stamp" and I can't rightfully tell her "no" since I have a few tats, but I can, and did tell her what I think of them. I wouldn't want some other dude seeing her tat and thinking about her the way I think about other women with a Tramp Stamp.
It's your body, your call. Good luck. Once you get one, you'll want more, it's almost a gaurantee.

I have one tattoo one the back of my right shoulder. It's a design and depending on how you look at it - you can either read "life" or "death" in the design. It didn't hurt that much when I got it. It's black and it only took half an hour to get it done. I was really tired from staying up the night before, so I kept dozing off while the artist was putting it on. But I know that the pain really depends on where you get it done and how much of a tolerance you have for pain. Maybe just stay up all night like I did - you'll be too tired to notice! (Umm.. maybe. Hehe)

I have a lily tattoed on my back. I had wanted it for a long time so when I finally had it don I was so excited that I felt almost no pain. Naturally, it depends on where you want to do it but it's really not that much pain. It's like when you sting your fingers in rose thorns...nothing much! For me it was really a great experience - for some reason, it makes me feel beautiful and confident.
I really love tattoos and I'm raising money now to get a new one!
So, be sure you get it done by someone authorized, and double-check the tools they use- they have to be sterile so you don't catch any disease.
Otherwise, don't worry! Just go for it! Good luck!

Well, I have two tattoos and the pain isn't so bad. But why do you want such a trendy tattoo? Everybody is getting that tattoo at the bottom of their backs now. I always wanted tattoos and when I got mine I didn't know many people who had them. I didn't follow a trend and I've never regretted my tattoos. Make sure you really want your tattoo, don't get it because of the trend or because someone elses looked cool. If you do decide it's something you really want, then prove your boyfriend wrong and that you are not a wimp!

I have a tattoo of St Andrews Cross in the form of a shield on my right shoulder - it's pretty big. I would recommend a small tattoo as your first. I actually thought the pain would be LESS than it was. It was bearable, but I definitely felt it.
Everyone has a different tolerance level for pain. My experience was a good one (pain and all) so I'll be getting another tat done in December (if my wife will let me). Ha! ;)

I have two tatts on me. One is a double celtic trinity knot on my right shoulder. The outer knot is black and the inner knot is red. My other tatt is on my left shoulder blade. As for what it is, it's quite difficult to described. I would have to show you. I designed both of them.
Don't get a tattoo at the bottom of your spine. If you do, and you want to have children, you're in for a "pleasant" surprise. When it comes to giving birth to a baby, more and more doctors are advising women with lumbar tattoos not to get an epidural because there are some health risks, one of which is paralysis.
Mind you, there are two camps on this issue.
"Right now, there is no consensus either way in the medical community as to the significance of the risk. "We won't know until 10 years from now, when more women have had epidurals," Kostach says."

It is most of the time a rule for tattoo artist not to tattoo minors without each mother and father consent. A father or mother ought to even be reward. For that intent, so much is not going to paintings on a thirteen,14 yr historic.
