After being on answers for a week or so, im picking up some hostility towards the muslim community. I live in Ireland and there is muslims here, but i havnt heard of any outcry about the veil etc. Is it purely about terrorism or is it just racism?

I have seen the comments about the veils. I don't think that it's racism, I think that it's more of a " guilt by association '' kind of thing. With all of the suicide bombings in Iraq and the things we hear about killing a non-Muslim ( infidel ? ) and going to heaven, I am sure we become somewhat fearful of the whole group ( Muslims ). I do not feel this way. I know that there is a difference. The majority of Muslims do NOT hold those beliefs. I guess I'm saying it's ignorance, and not so much racism.

Both! When I sit on a tube train next to a Muslim. I feel scared!

Ten years ago I felt nothing! I would just read my book and watch all the wonderfully interesting people getting on and off. That's what I love about London the real mix of cultures!

Now I do not know if the Muslim sitting next to me is hiding a bomb! I fear bombs! I have two lovely young children and I do not want them left Motherless!

In my culture (and everyone has a right to be proud of his culture and ethnic background!) covering your face is a sign that you are a villain! Think highwaymen, burglars and terrorists. The veil scares me. Terrorists scare me and when I am afraid I lash out.

Ireland has not been attacked YET! I am glad you feel safe and I hope Irelands troubles are over! But I do not feel safe in London nor in the air and not being able to tell a good British Muslim from a bad terrorist does not help.

The veil issue is about fear! We are saying show your human face so we know theres nothing to be afraid of. Shake our hands (a Muslim woman cannot shake hands with a male!) show us you mean us no harm!

Call it racist if you like but its naked fear! And cultural tensions will explode if its not dealt with properly. Then of course the terrorists have won.

Lets not forget that each person who committed crimes on 9/11 and 7/7 did it in the name of Allah. They believed they were Muslims! And its racist to check Muslims at airports??? No its plain sensible!

This is why there is so much hatred towards them: Below is a question by a muslim on this site:

"I want to wear my veil. So what if British people think it anti-social or bloody rude, I live in?
Britain in my own small Islamic state and so why should i give a toss about what the rest of the country thinks? Don't people realize that Britain will soon be run by Muslims and we will all have to wear a veil or be punished?"

I mean what an ignorant a""hole and yes that will promote hatred as this is what we are up against!

there are ones here who are war mongers or are being manipulated by those who profit from war. The merchants like this are working an old strategy of getting different religions to fight each other so they get the profit. Since corporations have bought their way into our government people do not know how to undo what is happening. I notice Brits have a similar problem but your news seems to be more accurate. The people here do not get all the facts mostly just what george tells us. Not all of us are duped but are not sure how to undo the mess. We'll see in Nov. if people get out and try to change things. We need a new party to vote for.

A lot of us are hostile towards Muslims due to the fact that it was a group of terrorists
using the Muslim faith to defend their attack on the United States.
However as a Christian I have to realize that according to the Bible even thinking about murder is just as bad as doing it for the most part. If we are to convert people to Christianity which is what Jesus commands "go ye therefore unto the world making disciples etc" we must FORGIVE and forget, which is a PROCESS not an event. It takes time to forgive thing. Jonah dealt with this problem when he went to Ninevah,(which at the time was the capitol of Assyria the nation who was currently killing and enslaving Israel and it surrounding countries)
We must be willing to forgive and let God work,
THIS DOES NOT MEAN WE LET THEM DO IT AGAIN! but it does mean we focus on finding the guilty not punishing the populace.

Probably a lack of understanding on the part of other religions and beliefs. The veil is a very contentious issue and until we are educated as to why people choose to wear them in this country I think it will always be a problem Personally I would feel uncomfortable speaking with someone who was wearing a veil as I can't see their facial expressions. 7-10% of what we say is recalled the rest is communicated through facial expressions and body language. It's complicated and a difficult one to answer really.

Racism. I live in a Muslim country. I'm Chinese myself and even my parents make the odd snide comment about Muslims. Never about terrorists.

its more about understanding, but why should a musilm be aloud to wear a veil when we the uk public are not aloud to enter a petrol station with a bike helmet or walk through a shopping centre with a balaclava, hoody or baseball cap without getting repromanded the shout out about the viel just fell into this catagory i too am uneasy about the thought of not being able to see who im talking too.. so i think racism has nothing to do with it but its just more aparent now because it was put out in the mass media due to terrorisum

Well, there are people who have A LOT to say about Muslims, and they felt they ONLY PLACE they can say that in behind their monitors and typing it. Because they are AFRAID to come out and ask a Muslim person or say to the same things they are typing here. FACT.
