okedoke, i am mostly native american, but i am mixed with ethiopian and french..sssoooo i have really really really thick hair!..also it is very curly, so i use a chemical no-lye relaxer for african american women becuase that is what my hair texture is like...even though i use the relaxer my hair is really healthy..no split ends, my hair or scalp is not dry or anything...but here is the problem...i shed..ALOT!...i shed soo much that after 1 brushing of my hair my hairbrush is no longer recognisable as a hairbrush and looks like some furry creature!..my hair is constantly on my clothes, clogging the drain...everywhere!..but somehow my hair remains super thick!..i don't know if this is healthy..or what?, there is no sign on damage at all..no thinning or anything, like i said perfectly healthy!

i need to stop sheeding like a siberian husky in arizona!...i don't even have long hair!

i'm not going bald!...it just gets annoying finding my hair everywhere and having to clean it up consantly....your right, i should probably go to a hair specialist and have them run some tests or something...i don't think i am allergic to my relaxer...this has been an ongoing thing and i only use the relaxer every 4 months or so..also i found out i was 6 weeks pregnant and now that i think about it, my hair has bee falling out alot more since then..maybe its hormones..

1. Do you brush too hard? A lot of people with thick curly hais do that. So, if you do, then try and be a bot more gentle.

2. Do you shed more in a particular season/ surrounding/ location? If yes, get yourself tested for allergies.

3. Try and stop using the relaxer for sometime. See if that makes a difference.

4. Oil your hair (pref use an oil with vitamin E) every alternate day, and wash the next morning.

5. Try mending your eating habits. Sometimes oily/ rich/ spicy food can cause hair loss. Shift to fruits/ salads/ soups for sometime.

6. Mend your biological clock. sleep on time rise on time, excerise a bit - and eat well (and healthy)

Hope this helps.

I am part Native American, so I too have very thick hair. However, my hair is mostly wavy and not curly. I have the same problem that you have with my hair falling out in large amounts and finding it everywhere, My hair does not look damaged and is also healthy, but the falling out hair has been a problem.

Well it could be lots of things,...

A) your biochemistry has developed an allergy to the "relaxant" that you use on your hair.

B) Something in your environment is affecting your physiology, and your body is reacting in a negative way. For example, toxic fumes, gases, or solids you've been exposed to. Some homes have been found to vent something called "Dioxins" which are detrimental to humanoids. The EPA does recommend that homeowners have detectors in their homes for dioxin contaminants.

C) There is something in your diet that your body is allergic to or has developed an allergy too.

D) Have you consulted a physician, perhaps you can get a Skin & Hair specialist to run tests.

E) Do you have a family history of premature hair loss, if this is the case, then there is no remedy. If its in your genes, its either your mom's or your dad's side of the family that is to blame.

What ever the situation, perhaps its time to look into getting into wigs as an alternative or simply looking on the brightside, at least you won't have to trouble yourself with the excessive fussings of hair fashions, and the expense of the maintenence of hair care.

Actually some women do look more sophisticated as well as more dignified without the trappings of Hair fashions. Its all in your own values. How you adapt to changes and how you come to terms with them.

Good luck sweetie
mahalo!!

Stop brushing your hair so much, this causes your hair to stretch and snap off. Get an extra wide tooth comb and a natural bristle brush. Brush only to smooth it down, just a few strokes.
