The ABS light comming on mean the sensors in the ABS system are malfunctioning or they have detected something wrong. The ABS will not effect your normal everyday braking. The ABS is only used to make the brakes not lock up in the even of heavy braking. The brakes will pulse on and off many times a second. This will let you steer in snow or in slippery conditions. So I if you want to be safe for the winter I suggest you take in your car to get it fixed. The ABS light going on is not dangerious, it only means your ABS system is having problems. Your normal brakes will still work properly but they will lock up in the event of full braking instead of pulsing, so this means you either need to get it service or be extra careful in snow and rain while braking.

it probably means that your abs is not working properly, and it could be very dangerous because abs stops your brakes from blocking your wheels when you want to stop very quickly in a dangerous situation. If the abs isn´t working your car could start sliding during intensive braking.

Your anti-lock brake system has a malfunction, so your car has completely disabled the ABS system. Your normal brakes will operate fine, but ABS will not kick in if a wheel slips. Safe to drive, you aren't damaging your car.... just remember when it snows that you won't have them.

Take it to the dealer to find out exactly why the system may not be functioning... it could be too many things to list, from simple to expensive.

I had a Mercury Grand Marquis that had a similar issue. After having the car in and out of the shop over a 6 mo. time, a buddy fixed the problem in an afternoon by installing a new alternator! I still don't know why but it worked. I'm puzzled.

It's usually a sensor that goes bad or the wiring to it is grounding. Your brakes will work, but the ABS will not.
