Is the Windows Service Pack 2 available for download over the net free? If yes, will it be downloaded on pirated Windows XP version. I am shortly changing to windows xp genuine home edition. Can I download it for free then? If its not free, what's the cost? Our technician told that the genuine Win xp home costs about 100$, but in order to receive security updates from microsoft, an additional 200-300$ has to be used. I dunno what it is for? Is it really true?

You will not be able to download SP2 with an illegal pirated copy of XP. Microsoft will shut you down. In fact, they can detect illegal copies so you should buy the genuine copy as soon as possible.

Your technician does not know what he's talking about or, he's doing an illegal transaction with you with charging for updates which are free if you have a genuine copy.

But if ur using a piratied windows then the downloaded SP will not work on ur OS u need to bring a pirated copy of service pack for tht which is available in the piration market and it will work as fine as the licence one work with all the updates and paches availabe to download and work with it.

Genuine is a tool sending data to Windows in order to look if your version is legal.. if it is legal, then just update it over the internet... (Press on internet explorer Extras and then "Windows Update")... this guy is trying to cheat you, every WIndows XP edition (legal!) can upgrade to the Service Pack 2.... just try it, if the WGA tool is telling you, that your version ain't legal, then legalize it, or if you want to keep your version illegal, search on the net...

Please go to this link for all your updates for Windows...
Click on this link...
Then click on Express download...
Then look to see if there are any new updates listed on the left side of the page...
If there is any you think you may need or want you click on them and download them for free...
Then you will most likely need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect...
That is if you actually download something...
This is the main site where all updates are free...
Hope I helped...
