fake it. Guys are weak like that... if you tell them they're not doing it for you then they go into shame-mode and worry if they'll ever get it up again.
Besides, it's always best to do the selfless thing.
Give them their pride.

If this is a once in a while partner than I say no harm in faking it. If this is your significant other you should be comfortable enough to be able to talk during sex and say "this is what I need". Chances are your partner has no idea they aren't ringing your bell the right way. Sex is a learning experience, everyone is different and needs different things to be pleased. I think by talking to your partner you make them a better lover and you make the experience a whole lot more fufilling.

Interesting question deserves a interesting answer.
I'm a man...I've faked before. I fake it when I'm tired and I know I won't ejaculate but I know my woman is aroused so to give her pleasure knowing I got 'off' also...it makes it better for her.
On the other hand, with me being aroused and wanting some...submission comes to mind and she gives it up because she knows I want it...then she fakes.

Why do you fake an orgasm? Stop having sex with little boys and have it with men who gives you a real orgasm.

In almost all cases, you should stop and guide them to do it right. They'll never learn to please you - or any other women - if you don't correct them, and in conversations I've had with guys, they almost all say they WANT to be told how to do it right. You just have to be gentle with them. (If you're afraid to come right out and say it, directions like "up" "left" "faster" and general noises are good guides)
The only excuse for faking it is if you just aren't getting there and you know you aren't going to, and it just isn't their fault. Sometimes we're tired, and it just ain't gonna happen! In that case, it's okay to spare their feelings.

i usually fake it. or just tell him to go ahead and come to get it over with. or...get a vibrator and use it during intercourse. put the tip on your clitoris and you'll come in no time...works every time for me and then i dont have to let his ego down by not coming...(or maybe it hurts his ego even more that i have to use something else besides him...humm..i had not thought of it like that...oh well.)
