Kitten has had rabies shot 3 months ago. I know I must schedule for other shots - but which ones? Heard and read about some shots actually being harmful rather than helpful. So, for an indoor-outdoor (supervised) kitty, what shots will be actually essential?

Rabies yes, always!! Protection for him and for you! If he ever is accused of biting or scratching someone you are in a lot better spot from a legal standpoint.

If he is an outside at times- If you tend to allow fosters or 'visiting' cats, get the standard array of shots that the vets recommend for outside cats.

I had one that reacted to the shots, started retching and actually passed out, had seizure like activity within 5 minutes of getting all the shots. Vet could not say which shot caused it,guessed it was the FeLuke as it was the only one different from last year.
That was 10+ years ago and they have changed the formula in the FeLuke vaccine since that time. I still insist the cats stay for a few hours at the vet clinic when given the FeLuke vaccine.
One vet in Wichita,Ks-Skaer Vet clinic- had the policy of keeping cats for at least a few hours after the FeLuke was given. I changed vets and started taking my cats to Skaer a few months after my cat had his reaction. Wish I could have taken Bill Skaer with me when I moved out of state!

Rabies and Distemper are the big ones. Parvo is another, I think. Have your kitten tested regularly for Feline Lukemia and AIDS, worms (round, tape and heartworms). Lukemia, AIDS, worms and Parvo are transferable to humans. Good luck, sweetie and you'll have a happier life because of your kitty.
