A bond is 'A debt investment with which the investor loans money to an entity (company or government) that borrows the funds for a defined period of time at a specified interest rate. '

simpliciter:When you own a bond, you are the company's creditor, means that if the company goes into liquidation, you get paid before teh shareholders (even preference shares). You are not a member, merely a creditor

A share, it's more common than a bond, when an company offers such 'shares' at an Initial Public Offer, or you trade in the stock market. That way you are buying into the company, not borrowing to the company, you are then a member, paid dividends, (some profit given annually, or by whatever time the company stipulates) e.t.c.

the similarity between the two is that they are both sources of funding for a company or corporation.

A bond is a debenture instrument. That is to say that the bank or issuing agent is actually going into debt because they are borrowing a specific amount of money from you at a specific interest rate. A share of stock is an equity instrument and is a portion of ownership in a company that they are selling you for a set price. You become a part owner in the company.
