Actually Windows is user frandly os while linux is freeware. So there is no licence requirement for linux. I think in 10 years maximum linux will also be used at home.

Linux Os is better than windows in many ways like security and all. There is no doubt in that. But for home user it is better to have windows than linux. Becuase windows is more user friendly and also there is no security required for home systems since it is only going to use by our family members. So better go with windows.

i think linux... forget about the userfreindliness that windows is supporting... the linux is providing the opensource system so u can able to design ur own work over there in ur pc. and apart from there if ur are using the internet then it would be the best to use for the linux since there the virus threats are much less then compare to the windows based os. then apart from that did u know that fedora linux is supporting the number of language which other os didnt...........

think and act.

For the...typical home user?

I'm going to go with "maybe". It's not overly "user friendly" (depending on the distribution), and installing software on it can be more than a little unpleasent (depending on the linux distribution and the software in question).

It also depends on what you're goign to use it for. If all you need out of a computer is internet stuff (the web, email, instant messaging, etc) and word processing/spreadsheets/whatever, then linux would probably do just fine. There are lots of distributions that come with all the software you need for that stuff. And best of all, linux is free.

If you're willing to format your hard drive and try installing an operating system (which isn't that hard these days), it's worth the risk. You can always just switch back to Windows if things don't go well.

I think the best one to go with is called "Fedora Core". It's completely free, and comes with lots of software. It's pretty easy to install, and it looks pretty.

It's just a hellishly big download. 3.2 gigabytes in all, i think. And you'll need a CD burner or a DVD burner, to burn the disc images to a disc.

Linux is a very good and stable OS that anyone can use.

Being Open Source, meaning the source code is open to you to build upon, it affords a customization that windows restricts. It is, though the preserve of the techies; but there's no reason why you cannot learn about it and use it, with the plethora of information and Tutorials to learn from. After all, we didn't come into this World with all the Knoledge!? We learnt everything, and so can you.

Find Linux Tutorials to learn from http://www.linuxlots.com/~jam/index.html

Download and burn your installion CD from http://www.mandriva.com/download

All the best.

Do you know what the phrase "open source" means? If you don't then Windows OS is better for you.
