Does it have something to do with the microwaves hitting the plastic and causing some of the plastic to get "absorbed" into the food?

This all depends on the plastic. In our house we never cook anything in plastic and we don't run the plastic through the dishwasher. If we need to reheat we put the food on a regular plate or in a regular bowl. We use our microwave very rarely.

You are on the right track but I think the microwave changes the composition of the plastic. I got an email on this just like 2 or 3 weeks ago. It also stated to not freeze water bottles too.

Yes, it's true. It depends on the kind of plastic container or the type of plastic wrap. You have to watch labels.

DO NOT TAKE NOTICE OF WHO SAID WHAT.
It is ridiculous.So a hot drink in a plastic cup will be dangerous too.
If I were you I'd stay away from plastic .lol

with all the chemicals in foods today why bother about what the microwave is doing.
