met anyone on the Internet and gone out on a date with them...would you?

It appears the Internet has become a new way of meeting people, and it is replacing the bar scene. Is this a good thing and is meeting people on the Internet, and dating, the new singles trend in the new millennium?

Has the Internet broaden your social life or is it just a way of passing time?

And, what about those on line dating sites. Do they offer a safe way to meet new and excitng people or are they a waste of time?

Have you had any personal experiences, successful or otherwise?

I did and had two great experiences....but always remember safety first. You gotta use common sense, after all on line or in a bar, everyone is a stranger!

Personally I would never meet anyone over the internet for a date. It's way too easy to hide behind a false persona. It does seem to work for some people and I say good for them. It just not my thing but that doesn't mean it won't work for others.
Has the internet broaden my social life? Possibly but for me its more of a way to pass time. My favorite way is to help people who have serious issues and are looking for answers. Sometimes you are able to help someone and that is the best reason for me to be on here. I have never met anyone I talk to on here and don't have any plans to as of now. That may change in the future, I always keep my options open.

The internet is connecting many people. My daughter met her m an in five minutes on Yahoo personals. They have been together for close to three years and have a one year old little boy and they plan on getting married son.
I have many of my friends who's kids met s age I someone online and have great marriages.

I ahve dated guys from Yahoo Personals. One guy I dated for two years. At my age it is near impossible to meet anyone my age. I am dating a guy now that I met on Yahoo.

The safty is up to the people meeting. Meet in a public place and get to know someone before giving out any personal information. And bewear of the nuts. But, it is worth it meeting the good guys.

It is much better than the bar scene. Safer I believe.

The internet is a great way to meet new people. I personally have enjoyed it for 9 years. It is very possiable that two people can meet on the internet and fall in love. My parents did, me and my boyfriend did.

Though I have to say one thing, keep your real world friends abundant and make sure you go out with them and hang out with them because it gets really depressing when your down to 1-2 friends and all you have is the computer in front of your face....trust me..I would know

If you know two, I know of four pairs but not on Yahoo answers
-- My first cousin wedded to someone last year whom she was introduced to, in Cherryblossoms. An acquaintance married someone from Filipinaheart. A dormmate, to her Yahoo chat mate from UK. My officemate, to someone who introduced her to a male in LDS web site. But what is the percentage of success then? Is it one marriage out of 20? 200? 2000? 20,000? 200,000? 2,000,000? online correspondences. We are in the Cyber Age and the internet is ONE of the ways of finding a partner. Like all other relationships, wherever it's found, there is no 100% assurance, that it will be a happy or successful.

People may have a lot of reasons why they're online, not just to date. Personally, my online "search" for THE one has not been quite successful as of the moment I am writing this. Care to introduce anyone to me?

I met my husband on Yahoo Personals back when it was still free. We have been together 8 years and married 3. I am the happiest I have ever been in my life. I have a wonderful guy and a great marriage. Internet dating can work out you just have to very careful with it.

I am just killing the time. I met people and friends at the bar and would rather see, check the quality first carefully before I take it.

Hell no, I would never meet someone off the internet. For one thing its dangerous, and second.... It's for very desperate people. That's pure desperation if you have to search online for a mate.
