it is not currently in use it has actually been replaced twice. the current motor used in the maxima is a 3.5 V6 but if you needed to get another V6 nissan motor from that era and you couldn't find a maxima then try the pick-up truck (V6 model) or pathfinder or the 300ZX (Z31 model [1984-1989])as they all left the factory with basically the same motor, save for a few changes and of course the wiring harness. one last thing. if you have an se model maxima made after '92 (i think) then it would have a slightly detuned version of the award winning 300ZX (Z32 model [1990-1996]) motor which is much more powerful and a heck of lot more fun you can also find this motor in some infinities. keep the oil changed, radiator cleaned and good coolant, change your timing belt every 60K and i wouldn't be surprised if any nissan motor tripled and then some the life of any of the big three's motors.

VG-30 engines used timing belts so some did not last. I personally have customers with over 500 thousand miles and a 1997 Maxima customer with 630,000 miles thats 63 thousand a year an oil change every month with mobil one.
