Try hooking it up anyway, a lot of times the computer will recognize the device. I have a powershot A70 and both my mom's and my computer recognized it without the CD. Maybe the camera itself has some software or there is a general pack in windows for digital cameras. If it doesn't work then you need the disk. But it's worth a try right?

That last answer was really good, about hooking it up and seeing if your computer reconizes it. If that doesn't work, you could try going to the Nikon website and see if you can download the drivers directly from the site. Post on Craigslist.org in your area for someone with the same camera, maybe you can borrow their CD or pay them a couple dollars to burn you a copy...? Good luck, I know what a pain it must be not being able to upload your pictures!

Just forget about the software and get a card reader. You ought to do this anyway.

If you get a card reader, no additional software is necessary. This is not only faster, but it saves your camera batteries. Your computer or printer may even have a card reader built into it. I have enough USB ports that I just leave it plugged in all the time.

First of all, be sure there are some pictures on the card. Plug the card reader into an open USB port. Plug the card into the appropriate slot on your card reader. I use Photoshop Elements and as soon as I plug my card into the reader, it starts its own card reader and displays a thumbnail of every picture on the card.

If this does not happen automatically, open your photo editing software. Do whatever you usually do to open a file, but click on the selector where you can change drives. Your card reader will be assigned a new drive name that will be one letter higher than you ever saw before, such as "Drive G:" or such. Then, just double click on the name of the file you want to open and it will appear in your photo editor.

Contact Nikon HQ Office in the country in which you live (see your camera's handbook for address/tel), explain the problem, and I am sure they will help you either by sending you a new disk, or pointing you to a website where the software can be downloaded. Hope that helps.

go to http://support.nikontech.com/cgi-bin/nikonusa.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=61 on the web, which is the Nikon site for software downloads, choose Coolpix cameras, submenu choose L3, next menu choose software downloads, and go.

You will get a page that will let you download all the software that came with your L3.
