Zionism is a sect of the Jewish faith engaged in the same kind of ultra nationalism that fueled the Rise of the Nazi party in Germany in th 1920's. They were supported by the USA after the war as an opening into the middle east, and a weapon to use against the Arab states in the Oil wars. They were also used by the US, France and England as a Foil during the Suez Crises against Egypt. They continue to be supported very heavily for the same geo-political reasons, they are in effect a way for USA to wage war in the middle east by proxy.

Zionists, roughly, believe in the creation and maintenance of a Jewish homeland. Today, this normally means the state of Israel.
Yes, some religious (esp Orthodox) Jews oppose political Zionism for religious reasons, but support for Zionism does not depend on one being Jewish or believing in the Bible.
Zionism was originally a secular movement amongst educated European Jews who were concerned with the terrible conditions that Jews faced in Europe (East and West).
Ultimately, the "goal" of Zionism (a Jewish homeland) was accomplished with the support of European imperial powers and we now have a state, Israel, which has a Jewish identity.
Why are we giving them [Israel, not Zionists] foreign aid? That's much too complicated for Yahoo! Answers. We give many states foreign aid and for a multiplicity of reasons.

That's true a Jew isn't necessarily a Zionist and a Zinoist isn't necessarily a Jew. Jews are just Jewish people, the chosen people. Zionists are people who believe in Israel as a state. They are for their own country.

ronnysox60,
By this definition, from a Jewish person, I am also a Zionist. I believe that Israel is the place that is not only the home of the Jewish people, but prophecied to be the home of the Jewish people. Jesus will return to that country after all the armies that are to come against them attack Israel, (Zechariah 14), and He will conquer all those armies. It will be such a mess, that it will take 7 years to clean up the mess (Ezekiel 39:14).
So this Bisexual Protestant Christian is a Zionist as well.

Zionists are more radical in their belief about the Jewish homeland of Israel, but I would say that there is NO difference between the two. SOme are simply more outspoken than others. Shme Yisrael, Adonai eloheinu, Adonai ECHAD. Beruch ha'shem k'vod malchuto l'olam va'ed. Amein. Am Yisrael Chai!!!
