Initially I had given my own name, but then I found that not a single person gives his/her own name. I felt it strange!

Well, if youre talking about online....then you really shouldnt. There are too many freaks and criminals out there prowling. Its just not a good idea to reveal your real name.

You are not the only one, I use my real name when I play online and stuff. The other day I had this same question in my head and realized that its probably because if people have an embaresing moment say in a chat room for instance, then everyone might say John Doe is so stupid. Also a name is a personal thing, would you stand in a crowd giving out cards with your name on it to strangers, No! So why would you want to give your name to a whole bunch of strangers in a chat room. hope this helps.

Most of the people on this site are fairly young, so internet predators are rampant. By giving a full name, that's just an open invitation for stalkers to start picking out their victims. It may sound a little paranoid, but if it's disturbing to think how many sex offenders are crawling this site right now. You never know the person behind the computer screen until you meet them face-to-face, and by the time you figure that out, it may be too late to hide your own self from this other person. We're all so secretive -- and some of us have darker aspects to hide than others.

Oh I always use my Real Name, such as this one!
With your real name, people can look you up online and often find your phone number and even home address. If you want every stranger in the world to be able to know where you live, then it's ok.

Maybe their parents tried to be like some celebrities and gave them a weird name that they are embarrassed of.
But not mine. My name is Catherine. Simple, elegant, and you can say it without having to suppress a giggle.

fear of ridicule is a part of it. People do not have to be politically correct or forced to answer in ways that they dont really believe if they can be anonymous. They can really be honest with no repercussions

People have screen names or game names.Its to protect your privacy also.There are many stalkers & preditors on the internet. Many people who even lie about their name,,location,,age & gender.

Identity Theft is more common that you would think. I imagine most people do not give their name for that practical reason.

because they think that if they will give their own names they will be in problem and if they will give another name they will not suffer I don't have words tosay understand as much as u can.
