... and also are mini-dv tapes compatible with DV-cam cameras and dvcam tapes compatible with mini-dv cameras? I always thought that the terms mini-dv and dv-cam were interchangeble but now i hear they're not... if anyone could clarify, that'd be awesome!

Wikipedia says that MiniDV and DVCAM (which is for Sony cameras) use the same cassettes and record the same way, but DVCAM moves the tape 50% faster and thus records one-third less on the same tape as MiniDV. DVCAM can read MiniDV but not vice versa. DVCAM is aimed at the semi-pro market.
