We merely use the moon as a time-keeping device, yet people seem to think we worship it! Why is this? I know that many of us have tried to explain this many times, but people just won't listen! Why?

I believe that the ultimate source of this misinterpretation of Islam comes from the fact that the Kaba (pre-Islam) used to house idols for local deities. One of the them, Hubal, was a moon god. So, take the fact that a moon god was once worshipped at a site that is now sacred to Islam, combine that with the fact that Muslims use the crescent moon as a religious symbol, add a little bit of good old fashioned ignorance and disrespect for the faiths of others and you come up with this ridiculous notion that Allah is a moon god.

That is one of the biggest ignorance of some people.

Muslims worship Allah, the Creator of the sun and the moon.

A wellknown "old fart" here always spews the same crap over and over that Muslims worship the moon god. No matter how much proof you show that we don't worship moon, he wouldn't pay any heed. It's obvious.

[6:39] "And they who reject Our communications are deaf and dumb, in utter darkness; whom Allah pleases He causes to err and whom He pleases He puts on the right way."

[43:40] "What! can you then make the deaf to hear or guide the blind and him who is in clear error?"

IF our God is moon god, why would then he say these in Qur'an:

[7:54] "and (He created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by His command; surely His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds."

[35:13] "He causes the night to enter in upon the day, and He causes the day to enter in upon the night, and He has made subservient (to you) the sun and the moon; each one follows its course to an appointed time"

[41:37] "AND AMONG HIS SIGNS ARE THE NIGHT AND THE DAY AND THE SUN AND THE MOON; DO NOT PROSTRATE TO THE SUN NOR TO THE MOON"

I agree, "they do it because they know that it botheres you." so don't bother paying any attention to such ignorant imbeciles.

This is the one of cards , the anti-muslim people including some Christians used when they were not able to logically face the Islamic ideology of monotheism.
One such christian site is http://www.biblebelievers.org.au/moongod.htm

But I would say this is the silliest argument they should have used. There are still lot of Arab Christians who use Allah for God and even in Arabic bible you can find Allah throughout. So actually this tactics of Christians back fired upon them, they are actually saying that Arabic speaking Christians are also believing in moon god. See a discussion about this at a Christian site, there are views from Arab Christians also in this

Assalamoalakum sister,

I have often wondered where that came from myself. It sounds like a joke some fifth grader made up to me. But then, I know what it says in the Quran, alhumdulillah. They won't believe it because the majority of them don't want to learn the truth for themselves. They'd rather believe the rediculous things that non-muslims make up about us, than simply asking us themselves. Even if they do, they never seem to get it, because they are hard-headed. Allah says to forgive them though, because they don't know.

the same people that say that say that Jesus was a moon god.
their theory is that everyone who'se birth was marked on a lunar calendar is a moon god of some kind.

as a person that actually follows several moon gods that kind of pisses me off. the beliefs that my ancestors had about the moon and the gods associated with it come from very deep cultural beliefs.

my birth is marked on a lunar calendar. as it is the calendar that i use for all of my religious schedualing. this does not make me a moon god.

anyway just ignore them. they are just trying to cause problems by relating your religious figures to the pagan religions that came before.

they do it because they know that it botheres you.
