I got a 16g industrial a couple weeks ago and now I want to have it at the standard 14g. I've heard horror stories about cartilage collapsing so I'm hesitant to try and increase my gauge without some sort of info. Should I just try to slide the 14g barbell through with some lubricant or should I use a taper or what?

Cartilage is not something you should mess with unless you know what you are doing. I have had to 'fix' plenty of mistakes in that department.

An industrial takes 6-8 months to heal, even longer in some cases, you are never supposed to change, remove jewelry or gauge during a healing period!!!

My main shock is that you piercer didn't use a STANDARD 14g in the first place. Very strange, so I would go back and ask them about that.

As far as stretching it a bit, wait until it heals before you do ANYTHING to it. Your best option is just to pay your piercer to fix this issue for you. They might scalpel it which would be the most common way to fix this. But NEVER stretch or taper cartilage on your own, please.

I Gauged My Ears What I Did Is I Went To The Nearest Hottopic And They Do Indeed Make Tapers That Small If You Get One Pair (2 Tapers) And Put One In Each Hole Of Your Industrial And Leave Them In Long Enough For Them To Heal Around The Tapers And Then You Have To Also Buy A 14 Gauge Straight Barbell To... To Keep The 14g Holes.... Or If You Go To www.hottopic.com You Can Buy Almost Any Size From There Site... But Yea...

If you are extremely worried about it, go see a piercer and ask them, or have them put the new barbell in it. I recently got an industrial. I think it is kind of odd that you got a 16g barbell, I was talking to them and generally the standard is 14g barbell pierced with a 13g needle to make it easier to go through. If you want to try it I would just slowly try to work the new jewlery in, as long as your ear is completely healed.

NO! Don NOT do that!

First off, Industrials take at the least, 6 months to a year to heal! That usually take quite some time. You may heal sooner than others, btu it has to be COMPLTELY healed before you even THINK about stretching it! You're not supossed to even change the jewelry out this soon...!

Wait for it to heal, go to a professional piercer, and have THEM do it. Stretching cartilage is usually tougher and a LOT more painful. Pay the 5 bucks to a have a professional who knows what they're doing. That is a risky thought you are having...

Just call back/go see your piercer and talk to them about it. Ask them just how long to wait for everything, and when you can do it, have them do it. It's a hel of a lot safer that way...

I wouldnt try streching your cartilage. maybe try scapling it. they will cut away the skin in a circlar pattern so youll be able to fit a larger gauge in there. go to http://BMEzine.com then the gallery pics, then looks at the scalping gallery, check it out see if thats what you want.
