My brother-in-law has two pitbulls, well today they attacked my great-Uncle's small dog.I suggested they should have the two dogs put down, because this is not the first time they attacked another animal.I worry because my nephew is in this household, and I think these dogs have the bloodlust now!Last week they went after my child! Do you think I should call,so something will be done about these aggressive dogs? I tired of talking to my brother-in-law, but he says the dogs are not that way! And he got really mad at me!

Pitbulls that have a habit of attacking are risky having in a home especially with children that live there. If it is constantly attacking, i would ask that the dog be put to sleep. any animal that has a history of attacking and poses a threat to the safety of those around it (including animals) needs to be dealt with accordingly. I would call an animal shelter or hospital and get their opinion on the situation.
Also your brother-in-law is technically responsible for these incidents because he owns the dogs therefore any medical costs or damages that occur because of this should be his responsibility.

keep your kid away from them if youre that concerned and keep the dogs separated obviously. that you believe the animals are dangerous, you know will share the blame if your kids are injured. doesnt matter what your in-law thinks anways. aggression towards other animals is a common trait to most dogs though-they dont all get along...they do walk on 4 legs. hope you focus that critical eye of caution on all dogs...not just the most publicized. anyone else experience the "cute dog" thats always pictured with firemen (the dalmation) as an extremely ill tempered animal? any disney movies bout 101 pitbulls? let him police his dogs, police your own kids.

"Bloodlust" is a myth. I know - years ago I handled patrol dogs.

They do know they can be aggressive with impunity and THAT is a training problem that makes them dangerous.

Tell him that he better get them to an obedience class or something will happen that can land him in court over the dogs with criminal charges, and the victim will sue (and win) huge damages from him that most likely his homeowner's insurer won't cover. *(And if the insurer finds out, they will drop him like a rock for even having that breed - many insurers won't issue policies if those dogs are on the property.)

There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. Pitbulls in the hands of bad owners can lead to a tragedy. Report them to animal control or code enforcement because if you don't, and then something aweful happens, you'll never forgive yourself.

He needs to pay any vet bills for the smaller dog. He also HAS to keep the dogs away from other animals and use them solely for protection and compansionship. They should probably be kept away from small children too.

I don't think he necessarily needs to put them to sleep. However, he NEEDS to train them better! He should not own so-called agressive breed dogs if he is not willing to train and punish them.

There are more than a few reports of a pit bull attacking a child and more than one of the child being killed. if your brother in law wont listen to you just stay away.

I have a pit puppy. If he did this I would put him down. I believe it depends on how they are treated as puppies. I wouldn't hesitate to turn him in. Your child may be next. Good Luck, Becky

amazing how people get so defensive of their pets. I have pets but know they're still animals. Definately call, you have a child to think of. You can probably call anonymously but you're great Uncle will be suspicious so be prepared to handle that. These dogs will not change because they've already "tasted blood". call your local animal shelter they'll confirm this.
