Start teaching them again that life has value.
Unfortunately, we teach them that they are just another animal, and we all got here by chance, and after this life is nothing. Therefore, we make our own rules, and under that criteria, who is anyone to tell them that what they do is "bad"?
In other words, Right and Wrong is in the eye of the beholder, because we do not answer to anyone but ourselves. We choose which laws to follow and not follow. Religion is for fools. What right does anyone have to tell me what I can and cannot do? If I'm prepared to deal with any possible consequences, so what?
So show them life has value again. There is more than this life. There is a (one) source of absolute moral truth.

First of all, that was a very stupid reason for the twin to stab his own twin for a piece of gum. In order to make kids realize this would be to shut down gangs, which is already to hard to do. We can't really stop this violence, that's like saying let's try to get rid of all the illegal drugs in America. You simpily can't, you just need to talk kids and remind them about this. Also, look out for the warning signs, and if you have a gun in the house, make sure you have it somewhere where it's locked and children can't get to it. Plus, TV can influence the choices that people make.

I feel as if it has to do with the home, family and friend environment that children live within. Parents seem not to have much time with their children, i feel as if parents these days take the time and effort to listen to their children then there would not be as much violence in this world.
Parents don't take the time to spend with their children to teach them what they need to know. Children these days seem to be left alone and to teach themselves what is the dfference between right and wrong. They really have no clue as they are teaching themselves and never really know the difference between the two.

The kid needs to be told and would always do what he would have seen an adult doing. And im sure not a lot of educated people stay around that place. Please make sure that the kid who did it does not get a punishment and instead goes thru a self training so that he is not encouraged.....

i guess we can't unless we really start them very early stages of their life when they are a day old, and stop them from watching and seeing violence from tv or any other act of such in their homes! make them see peace and love instead!

Parents need to talk and talk and talk.
Parents need to set a good example by how they live their lives....you can't do one thing and say another.
Parents have to accept responsibility for their families.
