and her husband never even acknowleges it at all...no card, not even a "happy birthday". I feel bad for her, especially since my husband is always so thoughtful to me. I always try to do something for her birthday, but how can I make her feel better?

There's no way you can play the part of a husband to her. I also don't think that it's a good idea for you to talk bad about him to her. I suggest that you simply express your affection for her appropriately and extend your warmest birthday wishes.

hey my birthday was last week and my husband didn't even acknowledged it either, It hurt me but I felt better when everyone else who cares just said happy birthday and some even bought me stuff like candy and a card and my best friend took me out to lunch with a card and that was really nice. I just thought every since then how much of an a$$hole he was, And I didn't care if it bothered him that my friends got my something for my birthday I just rubbed it in. He never even told me happy birthday, And what got me was my 5 year old daughter never got to go buy mommy something(she really wanted too) So just me her friend and do lunch that would be nice GOOD LUCK

Suggest you invite her and and her husband over
for a meal and surprise her with a birthday cake. Has she tried doing something special for his birthday. What is the relationship between him and your husband? Maybe you could plan something sorta special together on his birthday. I can see why she might be hurt if she has already been trying to make his
birthday a day to remember. Sometimes men just don't get it
especially if birthdays weren,t celebrated in their home.

maybe you could have a little get together and invite her and her husband as a couple. Just play some cards or something.. cook dinner.,, etc. Giver her a bday present while she is there and see if he acknowledges her BDAY... if not he is a jerk... but you won't be overstepping your boundaries as a friend and the hubbie can't get mad.

Just continue to be a friend. There is nothing you can do to compensate for a jerk of a husband. It is nice that you make this day for her. You are a very special friend, Bless you.

JUst by being her friend..call her up..take her to a movie..treat her

but I would'nt go too much into what a cad her hubby is, she likely feels bad enuff as it is tha the did'nt get her anything. Unless she starts it.

if you can afford it..why not a nice treat her to a nice massage or something?

aside from making her a widow....no - seriously.....Does his religion (like Jehovah's Witness forbid it? Does he expect things on his birthday??? - there are some questions).

Otherwise - take her out to dinner and a movie - get her a small token of friendship - like a watch or another piece of jewelry.

Take her out maybe? Lunch or dinner. I woudln't over step your boundary though because the hubby (even though he may be a jerk) will start to dislike you because you are treating her better then he is.
