Oh what sad story, but what a wonderful and loving heart you have.
I do have some links to organizations that may be able to help. I don't know where you live, but it won't hurt to check into into them.
Good luck and I hope your baby can get her surgery soon.
PS -- I forgot to add that she is absolutely adorable, too :-)
She is so lucky that you found her.

If you cant afford the surgery for the time being just let her adapt to your enviroment and dont do any furniture changes and be sure to talk, whistle sing etc. She'll learn your routine and shell learn your home and associated scents and paths-youd be surprised at how well a blind animal, esp a dog, can get around one they know their enviroment (and I assume she has some vision -she survived WallyWorld Parking lot without getting smushed) Lots of love and patience and if she really is thumping the walls you might try crating her esp at night. Shell feel safe and secure. Depending on what they quoted you and with consideration to her age, it may not be the best thing to make her suffer thru a surgery and you the finacial expense, just allow her to be her and shower her with love. THough if your feeling really bad you can probably dontate her to a PRIVATE rescue group-try petfinders.com for a list of rescuers...who will have her eyes attended to.

NO - never in 43 years of handling & training have I ever heard of any group who will help.
Will the vet work out a payment plan for you? Maybe do one eye at a time??
Is there a vet school at a university in your state? They may have lower fees since it is a vet clinic and teaching facility. Cataract surgery probably from congenital deformities is pretty unusual.
By the way, once she learns the layout in your house, she will do fine. My grandmother had a Boston who lost his sight at a young despite super vet care and he zoomed around the house - if he went up the stairs to the 2nd floor, he would bark for someone to come get him.
You won't want ot take her out without a leash or a long line made from 1/2 - 3/8 inch nylon rope that you buy at the hardware store and tie on a snap. (Make the lines as long as you feel comfortable handling. I have some that go 100 feet.)

Oh Honey!!! You RULE to honestly rescue this dog! Funny, I found out today that I need cataract surgery & I can't pay for it either!! What to do!? Try some research with local protectionist organizations first. It could be possible that since you are sincere about this rescue there may be a charitable place that will help you get this surgery.

I don't think any organization will help you with this, but I think you're doing a great thing by helping this pup. Sounds like what she needs is just the kind of love you're giving her!
Veterinarians got into the business because they love animals and I know your vet will recognize how much you're doing for this animal. Explain your situation to her and I'm sure she will give you a price break and be happy to set up a payment plan.
Good luck and thanks for being a friend to an animal in need!

dogs do adjust, she will to, i had an older dog that went blind, he could still hold his own, never let the other dogs become the leader, he could still sniff out and catch a rabbit. he did run into a couple of things when he was running to fast and misjudged where he was, you have to not move things around, dont change the furniture or items in the yard, she will adapt. just takes a little time.
