If that's true, I think it has to do with the communal nature women exhibit. Women tend to be closer to their families, especially they're children, and church's, etc., provide a stabilizing environment inwhich to be unified. They may see atheism as too cold, or based in rationalizations.

Could be. We women were brought up to be subjective to men(in my generation) I don't want to rule anything out at this point which is why I call myself an agnostic.I can't prove that a supreme being exists, or that it doesn't. Make sense?

i think thats statistics for you,

i would say in that study how many atheists were sampled, and was the sample big enough,

we could do a study with the same number of atheists out of the whole group of atheists and the study might say theres more women then men,

i would say it doesnt matter

I think it's likely to be because women are 'supposed' to be more 'in touch' with their 'spiritual' side than men - it's kinda ingrained into our culture. Hard to overcome for some of them, since they think it makes them more sensative and special.

Yeah, most of my atheist club is made up of guys. But I am the president. :)

I disagree!

I think that men, as opposed to women, have a slightly greater tendency to be atheists.

I've never seen a person's sex change because of their religion.

Men are supposed to be more left brain and there is more danger to get caught up in rationalizing and arguements that lead to wrong conclusions.

Women are said to be more right-brained. Built in protection against bad belief systems!

As for the comments in the box above just ignore them.

Men aren't as open-minded as women. They always have to have visible proof. Also women are emotional . . Men are just hard headed!! Women RULE!!:)

I just wanted to say, I'm both female and an atheist. So your statistics don't worry me.
