I was just curious, I go to my checkups every four weeks I have only been examined the first two times now every time I go she just checks my uterus the measurments, listens to the heartbeat, and ask how I have been feeling and I keep all clothes on, when I was pregnant with my first baby she checked me at every appt, down there, I am 5 months now and I am sure later on she will eventually start checking me but is it normal for her to not ever check me, I have even told her my stomach has been tightening allot and she does check me by feeling my stomach but that is it, so is it normal that she doesnt do a full checkup on me ever?

My dr doesn't check until late in the pregnancy or unless something is wrong. He does the routine measure, feeling around the belly and listenening for the heartbeat. Personally, I think it's abnormal to be checked every appt. If it's a concern, ask why she checked you everytime with the 1st, but not this one. Congrats on #2!

My OB said that they try not to do any internal exams unless there's a compelling reason to do so, because checking can irritate the cervix and possibly introduce bacteria, etc.

I had preeclampsia in both pregnancies. My first one ended in an emergency C-section due to skyrocketing BP, a failed induction, fetal distress, and a preexisting skeletal abnormality. I think I had maybe two internal exams before actual labor during that pregnancy? And I developed preeclampsia again during my second pregnancy, and given the skeletal problem, that one ended in a C-section, too. I never once had an internal exam with that pregnancy. And I was considered medium risk, with non-stress tests and biophysical profiles done a couple of times a week during my last weeks.

So, yes, I think it's normal.

Don't sweat it. They can tell just about everything they need to know about how you are the baby are doing without checking your cervix.

With my first baby the Dr's checked me every visit. He was born Nov 2004.

With my second I only had a vaginal exam at 36 weeks to swab a culture, and at 38 1/2 weeks to seperate the membranes.

It's nice not to be checked so much, but I was wondering as well.

Well before I went into labor a week or two ago, they only checked me once for a pap smear, and now they're giving me vaginal ultrasounds once a week after they give me my normal ultrasound..But i've been going twice a week since I was 7 months or so..Because of high blood pressure I get non stress testing and an ultrasound once a week..its awesome..

I know, I thought that was wierd too. It's true the complete checkups do stop after the first few times. If you are concerned, you can insist on being examined.

I had a pap smear at 8 weeks, but then I didn't get checked until 36 weeks. There's no point to until then.

When I was preg with 2nd child, Doctor did not check untill the very end, because him checking could cause you to go into labor too early.
