A lot of time we can have bad dreams when we young and as we get older with more life experiences they get better. I remember when I was young having nightmares, I not remember them now. I also had this wired feeling that I do remember, when I closed my eyes I had this like a Distance Floating and I would see a fire far away. It was scary, but, as I got older it went away. When I think of it though I can get that feeling again and it still scary, so, I try not to think of it. Before you sleep try watching a good movie like a love story or something nice, not horror, or war stuff. OR, read a simple book like "cat in the hat" stuff or Comics in the News Paper. I know it sound silly, but, you want good thoughts in your mind before you sleep and not worry. The music mentioned above is good, they have some CDs with stuff like; Running Water and a Pan Flute, Thunder Storms and Rain (If that not scare you) I love the rain and distant sound of thunder.

There is a theory that people who have mental blocks don't dream Perhaps something or some stress relatd event has been blocked from your mind and it is surfacing as a scary dream.
I know of noone who has never had dreams or never had scary dreams. A scary movie, the death of a close friend, life changes even an exam in high school can bring such dreams. Talk to someone you trust. A doctor, counsellor, your trusted family member. Get a book at the library, but remember, it's a dream, there is nothing new to any of us. Like a bad toothache, or a flubbed line in a school play. It will be resolved. I find comfort in these verses from scripture--- there will be nothing in all my holy mountain that will harm you, ...and no more will the voice of weeping be heard in all the land...if you will turn to me...
I will never leave you nor will I forsake you..I will dry all the tears from your eyes. ....I will open a door of escape for you..... And nothing will harm you
Myself as well turning the radio on low, and taking a few deep breaths, giving thanks for bed, blankies and no bombs falling. or quietly bringing to mind the peace of being so loved as to have a voice, a life and good dreams can bring rest.

You can't stop having dreams, they're a part of your REM (rapid eye movement) cycle which is how you your brain gets it's energy for the next day. When you sleep your body goes through different stages of REM depending on how far into your sleep you are, 5 min, 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, 30 min... these stages of REM allow your brain to sort through the activities of the day. How you remember these stages is when you wake up during REM. When you wake up after or before REM, you don't remember your dreams.
Hope it helps some now that you understand a little better what causes dreams.

Everyone dreams, but many people don't remember their dreams. Having nightmares usually is a sign that something has changed in our life. Have you recently started taking a new medication? If so, look it up and see if disturbing dreams are a side affect of that drug. For instance, some muscle relaxers and anti-depressants can cause disturbing dreams about suicide and murder. If this is the case for you, contact your doctor immediately and tell him or her you want to sart right away going gradually off the medication and you want to know what the proper dose is to do that. Don't let him or her talk you out of it. Don't go cold turkey because it can cause a severe reaction. I've worked in the field of law and have seen many cases where people who have never committed a crime, do commit heinous crimes and end up in prison after taking drugs such as Zoloft.
Also, some people do have prophetic dreams so pay attention to what you are dreaming. Is it a scenario that could be real or could really happen?
True story... I dreamt once that a friend of mine was upset on learning I was moving and said he was coming over to my house. When he got there, he saw the knife I was using for cutting tape and threatened me with it. The next day, I was packing and using a knife to cut tape. The friend called and when he learned I was moving, said he was coming over. I immediately went through drawers in every room in my apartment and hid anything sharp I found, including the knife I was using for packing. The friend arrived, and said he wanted to help me pack and asked me if I had a knife, I pretended to look for one, and said I couldn't find one. He then looked in some of the drawers in my kitchen. I told him I needed to leave and got him to leave ahead of me. Thank God I never saw him again. Pay attention to your dreams. They could truly be a warning. It is possible to suggest to yourself before you fall asleep that you be given understanding of your dreams.
Also, certain foods can cause bad dreams. Watch what you eat. Spicy foods or overly sweet foods before bedtime can cause indigestion as well as peculiar dreams. Whatever you do, make sure your windows and doors are locked and if you have a security system make sure it is turned on before going to bed. Don't answer the door for anyone, even if you think you know who it is. Make prior arrangements for repair people and make sure someone is home with you when strangers enter your home to make repairs. Keep you car doors locked when driving down a street. Do not ever pick up someone and give them a ride, even if you know the person. My husband did that once and the guy pulled a gun out and laid it in his lap and started talking about what a great gun it was. My husband, who has a concealed carry permit, then pulled his pistol out and laid it in his lap, but kept his hand on it with his finger on the trigger, and proceeded to talk about what a great pistol it was. The guy changed the subject and nothing else happened. My husband learned his lesson and never again stopped to give someone a ride.
Your dreams may not stop, so try to figure out what they mean. It is possible to have a lucid dream also. That is when you are aware that you are dreaming and decide to change the outcome of the dream or stop the dream. Try it and see what happens.

There is one drug out there that I know of that stops Dreams right where they start. It's called alcohol. It helps those bed bugs so you don't have to.

There is a way. Dreams are a primitive form of thinking, so if you have no thoughts they naturally stop.
"dhayna"... is clearing the mind virtually free of thought.
(It is said sages don't dream.)

Go to your phonebook and find a doctor or psy-something (I forgot how to spell it) but basically you need to seek help.
Sometimes these dreams can come from real life experiences

The only thing that I can think of is going to a doctor and explain what is going on and maybe he can prescribe a medication or you can go to therapy and talk about maybe why your having dreams like that.
