i know the difference between hdmi and dvi is just that hdmi carries sound, and as far as picture they are equal... but my question is... is component video better or worse then either of those?

what do you mean hdmi will be better in future? because tv's will get better? or wires will get better? or broadcast will increase to what tv's can handle?

Component is the inferior of the group because it is analog only, while the other are digital. Right now DVI and HDMI are equal in picture quality (and to be frank component is probably unnoticeable inferior) but in the future HDMI will most likely win out not only because it carries audio, but because it already has higher bandwidth than DVI. This is rather irrelevant now since we don't even have any picture resolutions capable of taking advantage of the extra bandwidth, but most likely we will in the future.

VGA is analog. DVI and HDMI are digital. If you have a monitor and computer both with digital connections, the picture will be better with DVI or HDMI than with VGA The digital signal in the HDMI connection is the the exact same signal as DVI -- HDMI has a different connector and carries sound as well, which DVI does not do. You can get a DVI - HDMI adaptor to run a HDMI monitor on a DVI output.

HDMI is the best. It is a digital video and audio interferce (wire). It is better in the future becuase all the next gen movies and games will use HDMI becuase of the copy portection. Componet=worst, DVI=better,HDMI best.

component is analog but can display HD resolutions
the dvi and hdmi are digital, they support the same resolutions as the component connections
under ideal situations they are all the same

if you are using a digital display, LCD or DLP, and a digital source DVD; the componet connections will go thur an extra conversion digital-analog-digital. the DVI and HDMI will be digital all the way.
