That Islam has a strain of sexism. There, I said it *gasp shock awe horror*. Women were (and are still today) thought to be gossipy, passionate, and over-emotional. Thus, the witness of a woman in a court of law, where oftentimes a person's life and honor where on the line, was considered less worthy. What a crime, 1400 years ago, when women were still allowed to go out and take a public position in society. Society has changed one thousand and one degrees, and the fact that Islam is still mostly relevant in its pure form is something amazing considering the era of its founding.

Before you take your *aha* and skip away cackling malciously, I'd like to point my two cents at our own, oh so modern, liberated, free, equal, wonderful, perfect society. Women still earn only 80% of what men make for the same labor, women are still considered untrustworthy in positions of economic leadership, and hell, even Costa Rica and friggin India, where westerners got their panties all up in a moral twist because of stories of daughter-killing, have elected female political leaders. We have Condi, one of the most criticized members of the Bush administration after Bushie himself. Need more? Wouldn't matter anyway. A monkey never sees its own tail.

I have notice parents, while the male lays on the couch and lets farts the women cooks the food and serves it. About the only thing they manage to do is roll over and say, "bring me another beer" That doesn't take that much brains.

the translation is mixed up in the word "mind"what is meant is not an insult for women the context means that a woman is only half of the man in the business of everyday life that she is not expected to worry about bills and clothing and all the expenses that is for family need,he is the bread winner and takes the responsibility for this as is in a moslim family so it has nothing to do with being less intelligent

Sunnah is not Revelation and those who say Quran depends on Sunnah are wrong.

The Quran shows up the prophet as erratic in judgment in matters with his wives and with his adopted son and his adopted son's wife and in turning away from a blind man.

Quran says that man is created one degree above woman as the protector and provider and Quran points out that a woman can like trinkets and other feminine likes and Quran orders that the evidence of 4 witnesses are required for a charge against a woman, even if it is her husband accusing her of infidelity or in adultery when only 2 witnesses are sufficient against a man.

I wont accept sayings of the prophet or sunnah ahead of Quran if I were you.

this was given in terms of witnesses. it was said because -- a woman is more emotional than man. men are not on the same psychological level as women and women tend to feel more emotionally than men do. and i am sure you know this as a world known fact.

thus if a situation arises where a woman has to either stand up for the thruth or one of her near& dear ones -- her Judgment and Witness shouldnt be overruled by her emotions. thus emoitions may overcome and she may give a wrong judgement just to save her loved one. that is why they say in Islam --PARADISE LIES AT THE FEET OF UR MOTHER.

EDIT:STLOUISBUDDY --sorry twisting and turning the meaning of Holy Books is not Islam or Muslims work, but i think by now the whole world knows who did what to their Own Holy Books. in Islam a woman is respected and honored more than men. i think you very well know that WHO BLAMES EVE-pbuh for Fall of Mankind, but try reading the Qu'ran and it will say that BOTH Adam and Eve-pbut were responsible. also i think who doubts the Divinity of Jesus'-pbuh birth but it was Qu'ran that CONFIRMED and PROVED that MARY-a.s was indeed A CHOSEN ONE. for some people ignorance about Islam is indeed a bliss.
