I know that this question is going to make some people mad, however ask yourself the question, do you really think Iraq was ever capable of taking our freedom? I don't think so, look at Vietnam we lost and still didn't lose our freedom, yet they always say it.

I've asked that question many times before and am glad to see others are asking it too. Don't get me wrong, I support our military men and women but the fact of the matter is, the Iraq war is not defending our freedom. It was a war on false pretenses that has no connection to the terrorist attacks. If Saddam wanted to take away our freedoms, he wouldn't have been able to do it. We're the most powerful nation in the world. No one can change our freedom except from the inside (like the government)

As a woman and a Christian, I gotta agree with Bob (OWCH! Who threw that tomato??!!) Seriously, mental capcity has little to do with it. Everbody knows women are smarter than men!! LOL But, Paul was led by the Spirit to instruct Timothy not to allow women in his congregations to teach men. Alas, we are a fickle and emotional creature. That's how God created us. What's not being said here is that this woman was NOT teaching a women's or children's class. She had in the past, but was not at the time. Also, as mentioned in the letter from the pastor, there were other mitigating circumstances. They didn't throw her out of the church, they simple refocused their church doctrine to coincide with Scripture. The problem has arisen that the pastor, while serving on the city council, has admitted his belief that OUTSIDE the church, women can do whatever they want. This, unfortunately for him, is simply not the case. Women are supposed to be lovingly submissive to their husbands. Daughters are supposed to be obedient to their fathers or the other males in the family who are responsible for her. The problem is not that he has reorganized his church to better fit with scripture, the problem is that he projects an unscriptural double-standard for women in general. Was the church's (not just his, btw) decision fair? Yes. Nice? Not particularly. But, if the woman is indeed a Christian (I would hope so, after all these years), then she will pray for understanding & eventually come to accept her position in the Kingdom. Women are not excluded from service. We have positions to fill, just like men. They are not, however, the same positions.

In a way, your right, Iraq was a defenseless country that only fought with Iran when someone crossed the border. The only weapons they used were chemical weapons, so if they had any nuclear weapons i think they would have used them on someone like Iran or us. On the other hand you can give the US soldiers the benifit of the doubt that they are fighting for a bad decision that was put out by our president and his pea sized brain, and his vice president that wants to go to war with everyone. So you could give some respect to the soldiers that do volunteer and fight for something and die for a cause that we should never stuck our nose in. Thaks,

What is freedom? Is it a tangible object or is it simply an ideal? Unless you can hand me a chunk of some previously unidentified material and tell me that it is freedom, then I will continue to believe that freedom is an ideal that our country was founded on, and that many people strive for, and that many people desire. In that case, I think the argument can be made that the young men and women that are serving in the Middle East are truly defending freedom. They are upholding that ideal in the face of people who would have all that don't succumb to THEIR way of thought killed outright. And sadly, it is "Liberal" minded individuals like yourself that do all in your power to deny the ideal of freedom by trying to force your own beliefs on others.

The willingness of men and women to serve their country in uniform and fight the battles that we now know as World War II ensured that our freedoms remained intact.

From 1945 to 1991, the period we now call the Cold War, the willingness of men and women to serve their country in uniform ensured that our freedoms remained intact.

Beware hindsight bias. 20/20 hindsight. It is easy, after the fact, to know what we should have done. It is far more difficult to know what we should do. Parallel to that, it is easy to point out what others are doing wrong. It is significantly harder and much riskier to say what should be done different.

Excuse you! I'm ex-Army. Don't you remember the Greatest War to end all Wars (WWI), then the greatest war to end that war? (WWII) Would you rather be speaking Japanese or German? Have you flown on a plane recently?? do you know the restrictions placed on us americans for flying? (Freedom taken away from us) (Especially since 9-11?) Who elses' freedom are they protecting? We are fighting and dying for your right to even ask this question. Bush got us into this frigging war without any plans of removal. So Who do you blame for this crap? Have you ever fought for your country? Would you? Our boys (yes, boys because the average age for the VietNam war was 18) were sent over there to help promote freedom, not dictatorship. We defend the right for freedom, meaning no dictatorships, travesties for the human rights struggles, etc. Nor the total wipeout of races of people. Would you rather have a dictatorship rule, telling you when to piss and crap, or what job to have, or what to do, when to do it?? We fought for that right for all people, especially for us, the United States of America. So, Iraq has not taken our freedom? Go fly on a plane.

Semper Fi Ssgt.
It never ceases to amaze me just how shallow the thought process is of those who don't or never have served. The reason you hear that the military is out defending your freedom is because that's exactly what is happening. The freedom to speak your mind, question authority, speak ill of your elected officials is all due to the fact that our military IS defending your freedoms and rights as set forth in the US Constitution. The freedom to travel safely, the freedom to not live in fear that your fundamentalist neighbor is going to blow up himself and as many other people as he can at the neighborhood potluck are secured by the men and women who take the fight to the enemys of peace and out of our back yards. While you might not yet understand the balance between military might, peace and world politics it's very safe to say that the balance is held together with the blood of our sailors, soldiers, marines and fly boys (and girls). Unless.. strike that...Until you pick up a rifle or strap a tank, jet or naval ship to your back side, you're not going to understand. That's OK. There are thousands that answer the call and they protect your freedom to question their actions.

Let's look at Vietnam, Just Where did you get your info that state America "lost" in Vietnam? According to what I know from having to serve during the Conflict, The American combat involvement ended in 1973 after thr Paris peace treaty was signed by all parties. The Conflict ended in 1975 when the North Broke the Treaty and reinvaded the south and the Army of South Vietnam dropped their guns and ran. When this occurred there were no combat troops in Vietnam so EXplain to me How we lost the war?

You've got to look at the bigger picture. This is more like WWII than Vietnam (and it's not that a price wasn't paid because of us pulling out). If we lose the war on terror, of which the main fighting is currently centered in Iraq, our freedom will be in much jepardy. Unless you are willing to become an Islamo fascist, it will not bode well in our society. The men and women who are doing the fighting have a clear and objective view of what's going on and what they are accomplishing. They don't have to depend on getting their information from a media that wants us to lose.

Maybe the war isnt about "defending" our freedom, but look at Afghan, we are trying to eliminate the terrorists that try and run a plane into a building.. Or worse...

And the fact that the military exists says that they're defending our consituition from foreign enemies who wish to burn it up.. And domestic *cough Bush *
