The software you want is free, bundled with the Live CD for Linux. Download and burn the ISO you find at http://pclinuxos.com/ (the BigDaddy image), then check out the multimedia category from the Start menu.

That Linux-based company named Google is your friend. I found about 5 Windows-based converters by a Google search. My search was for "RM or RAM conversion to MPG" but that costs $.

By the way - based on an "answer" below - converting ANYTHING in any format to another is NOT illegal. In fact, you and I have a legal right to convert and to copy anything that we are properly in possession of, including all those DVD's that claim we do not have that right. Selling them or loaning our copy of them is another issue.

As far as I know, there is no legal way. RAM and RM belongs to Real Network. They compete with Microsoft and their codec is properitary. There use to be a program called Streambox ripper that can do the conversion but they were suited by Real Network and had to take out the conversion function.

Not 100% sure on this, but I believe that Windows Media Player 10 can convert other filed to mp3 files. You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/10/default.aspx
