There is a Cardinal Law who was responsible for shifting priests from one parish to another after he found they had molested children. At these other parishes they molested other children and Cardinal Law simply moved them to another parish. A friend of mine told me that Pope Benedict XVI, the current Pope, is the man who was giving Cardinal Law his orders. Is this right?

Yes, I am afraid it is. The priest gives people their last rites and marrys people and does lots of other things that makes money for the church. There is a shortage of priests and they don't want to lose one no matter what he does.
Children don't bring any money into the church. So it isn't really there first priority.
Don't you know yet in life or especially in religion it is all about the money.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Cardinal Ratzinger(now Pope Benedict) has been horrified by these scandals, as was Pope John Paul, but the American bishops have for a long time, gone their own way in regards to policy. In the 70's and 80's, mercy was the keyword. Most of the bishops were completely unaware of the long lasting effects and the seriousness of the offense committed against these children. They don't have wives they can talk things over with like most men do. It's generally a female point of view that sheds light and tempers a man's judgment. It's easy to get lost in the pomp and circumstance of being a cardinal and the bureacracy of being a bishop.

Cardinals are bishops, and as bishops they answer only to God, with only minor accountability to the Pope.

Then Cardinal Ratzinger, who is now Pope Benedict XVI, was put in charge of dealing with the priestly sex scandals by Pope John Paul II.

But by then, Law's problems and most of the others had already been discovered, and were already being publicly dealt with.

The secret, insidious nature of the preist abuse crimes made it very difficult for anyone to get a sense of the true scope of the problem.

Who would have thought such things were even possible?

If you build a priesthood around men not marrying women then you are just asking for gay men who want a free meal ticket.

Just an opinion!

Anyone can make any claim, but the accuser is the one who has to prove it. If they don't have any solid proof to back up what they say, then what they say is worthless gossip.
