Has anyone has real absinth before? I've had the one from the LC but I don't think it's the same as before like in the revolution. It may be because the wormwood, the one I had I think it had wormwood but it just felt like drinking minty warn alcohol. Does anyone know where I could buy like the real thing?

Absinthe IS legal in USA to buy/possess for Personal Use.
You cannot own it for Resale,,such as package liquor stores,,or in a bar.

It's pricey.

You can mail order it several places

Greenfairy.org
absinthesupply.com
absintheonline.com

(No reccomendation,,just examples)

SHOP AROUND..

OFF-TOPIC,,,but may be of interest to anyone with Back Pain,, Muscle Sprains, etc.

Stuff like "Deep Heat","Ben Gay","Icy Hot",,etc, etc are basically MENTHOL based,,,,any relief they offer is via improved local blood circulation.

"Absorbine Jr" is an old,,horse linament/athlete's foot cure/ muscle rub.

It's,,,,basically "Absinthe",,,,an Acetone-based Tincture of Wormwood and Absintheum Oils.
It too does include menthols.

The active absinth ingredients are absorbed thru the skin and into the muscles/tissues.

The releif it provides is entirely different from the other popular Aromatic Based stuff,,cuz of it's unique active ingredients.

*DO NOT DRINK Absorbine Jr!! ( Duh,,but i Had to say that--some people,ya know??:)

It AIN't like the ol' ,,,melting shoe polish wax,,then filtering it thru the heel of a French Bread to "get the juice".

But it Does work remarkably well for sprains, bruise, and sore back muscles

Yes, I've drunk absinthe several times. The last time was in November at at tasting of several different brands of absinthe in London, where it was never banned. My favorite was Pernod 68

Absinthe is an aniseed flavoured spirit that is clear until water is added to it, when it turns milky.

Absinthe contains a number of herbs and spices, but the one that got it that reputation - most likely unfairly - is wormwood. Wormwood has an ingredient called thujone which has a structure similar to T.H.C. which is the active chemical in cannabis.

There is a tiny amount of wormwood - used for its bitter flavours - in Absinthe, and you'd have to drink an enormous amount of it to be affected. Bear in mind that absinthe has a very high alcohol content, around 70% alcohol (normal spirits are 40%), but that it is drunk with 6 -8 times as much water, thus diluting the alcohol and active ingredients.

However, it was made illegal in France and some other countries because of fear that people were made mad by absinthe. The stories about the effect of the wormwood content were over exagerated. But there was tremendous consumption of absinthe in France and people certainly drank too much.

What does it do? Same as any other spirit. It makes you drunk if you have too much of it. Does it make you high? Well, it didn't affect me. I think you'd have to drink so much of it that you'd be drunk from its high alcohol content first

Does it still have wormwood in it? Yes of course. Bear in mind it wasn't made illegal in all countries and even though France made absinthe illegal and thus Pernod made a wormwood free replacement drink known as Pastis, Pernod continued to make real absinthe for export.

I'm not a lawyer but the absinthe merchants say that it is only illegal to SELL absinthe in the US, but legal to buy and consume it, and so companies like eabsinthe.com ship personal orders to the US and guarantee refund if a consignment is lost or seized.

However, if you want to know what absinthe is like without buying it, go to any bar or pub and ask for a glass of Pernod or Ricard pastis. Pastis is the wormwood free replacement produced after absinthe was made illegal. These also have lower alcohol, so you add less water. The taste and look of pastis is the same as absinthe.

This online merchant that will ship absinthe to US customers from the UK - see http://www.eabsinthe.com

Absinthe should taste like anise (licorice). There are a number of products that lack anise that are labeled "absinth" but they should be considered a type of bitters.

Absinthe is not hallucinogenic and has never been. It also has never contained opiates (that often comes from people believing fictional movies and confusing laudanum, an opium tincture that was used in the 19th century, with absinthe).

In the US absinthe is banned for sale and production by poor FDA regulations and customs bans its importation. However it is not specifically illegal (and is not a controlled substance). The only thing that will happen if found by customs is they will confiscate it.

Hemmingway was a big fan of absinthe. Had it once when i was in amsterdam on business. it's kinda freaky if ya drink enough of it. Ever see the movie version of Mulon Ruge? The green stuff they keep drinking is absinthe. How about the jonny depp movie "From hell"? the drink he pours over the sugar cube was absinthe. I don't believe true absinthe is leagal in the US or most of europe. In adition to the wormwood (thojone) true absinth contains opiates.

Amsterdam's chock full of it, if you ever get to visit. They even sell bottles in the airport. Real absinthe is illegal in N. America, our version has waaay less wormwood(the hallucinogenic agent).

My husband has this fixation about it, (driving me crazy really) but I know and tell him it is technically illegal here in the N American region. However, if for some reason I've missed something and someone relays some sort of insight here--please be so kind as to pass the info on. My e-mail is active and confirmed. Thanks!
