I have braces and they dont hurt. Although you might have a little pain right after they are put in. Your not supposed to chew gumand drink to much soda but I do anyway and I am just fine. Also no gummi or hard things (ignore that rule 2) :)
Good Luck!

For me braces don't hurt at all. Even when getting them put on it didn't hurt. The only thing that hurt was that day and 2 or 3 days after my mouth was really sore but nothing else. To me the spacers hurt more than the braces.
As for the foods you can eat.. They tell you not to eat popcorn, hard or sticky stuff, gum, coffee and soda. I can say I've probably broke all those rules. The gum doesn't work so well with braces as it gets stuck in between the brackets. I've broke a bracket two times. Once was with a tortilla chip and once with a frozen meal bar. It might be a good idea to stay away from those things... although I don't know many people who would want to eat frozen meal bars anyways. Good luck with your braces you will be happy you got it done!

The worst part of braces is how the metal affects your mouth. You might get sores from them rubbing on your lips and cheaks, but rinse with salt water and listerine (it tastes bad but it was my lifesaver). Your teath only hurt for maybe two or three days after you get them tightned. Just take it easy, soft food, even chickin, potatoes, jello. It's really not so bad that you'll starve. Just eat whatever you can handle, everyone is different.

I heard all types of horror stories when I was first getting my braces but they're not really bad. Getting them off is a little painful. I ate all foods and nothing happened but they said dont eat like hard candy, gum, chips, popcorn, stuff like that.

Braces.......suck, not to make you feel bad because it seems like you are getting them on soon. When you first ge them on its a pain in the butt liek nothing else. It usually takes a good 2-4 hours, depending on wut ur getting. That night ur mouth will be EXTREMLY sore, i dont recall eating anything. After about 5days however you wont even notice they are there. On foods they usually exagerate but its just about common sense, nothing sticky durr, but like the stuff they tell u not to eat just stay away from it, or if u have to be careful trust me its not worth it to break anything. Also make sure u brush ur teeth religiously becuz it will come back to haunt u if u dont. good luck and it goes quicker than it seems like. I had mine for 4 years and its worth it in the end.

it doesn't exactly hurt. your mouth just feels sore after getting them in and when the orthodontist tightens them. when I first got them I wasn't used to such discomfort so I was howling in pain. you can just take an ibuprofen for that.
as for food, you can't have anything too hard or sticky. no gum! and no nuts either. once I ate nuts when I had braces and a piece got stuck between the wires. it irritated my gums.

why do you need separators? nothing goes around your teeth, just on the front? anyways, they put a red thing in your mouth so you can't lick the glue off, then they put the glue on, put the brackets, then the colors. that's about it i think. that's all they did for me at least. i would say no popcorn, caramel, popsicles ( i bit the stick and the bracket came off), umm, not apples or whole fruit only cute little bite sizes pieces.....

you will be sore for a couple of days, mild painkiller like Advil should help. As for foods :) ice cream definitely! get yourself some soft foods the ones that you don't have to chew much , like ... ice cream!, no seriously... soft foods are good first few days. I treated myself to Frosties every adjustment.
