I recently brought my older flute back out of storage from being locked away for approx. 1 year and it has a funny smell (not musty, something different) and it makes my eyes, nose, mouth, and throat itch intensely and aggravates my breathing. Is my flute causing my problems? If so, how do you reccommend cleaning it out?

It's not that I don't know how to clean it, I wanted to know if something in the flute was freaking out my system. I don't appreciate rude answers.

based upon your description.. your flute contains lots of spores, fungal spores and dusts, etc.... which are most likely known by our immune system as foreign... ur body reacts with these foreign agents and causes allergic reactions.
most likely, dispose your flute... and buy a new one..;)

THe answer is yes. Awoodwind instrument is traditionally cork lined and therefore contains expressed moisture. This in that environment can cause mold, mildew and the like. I would have it professionally cleaned and re corked. They can use safe sanitizers and replace the contaminated cork and seals. You need to soak it in a bacterial cleaner.

possibly, because of all the bacteria in the tube, clean your pipes everyday before use and you should be fine. also when you clean it out use a large pipe cleaner.

its possible, becuase of the dust, mites, inside from the storage.
u should wash it or something, a professional cleaner, give it a thorough clean. should be ok. happened to me too.

why do people on here expect other people to wipe their @rses for them?
