get it removed by a foot doctor. Best thing i ever did

my teenage daughter had this problem a lot. had to have the nail removed on both big toes, then the doc put a medicine[ some kind of acid form ] that killed the nail in the corners so it wouldn't grow down in the toe anymore.All this was painful, but worth not having the problem anymore.You have to go to a doctor. good luck

My friend had an ingrown toenail and it had to be removed so the the new nail could grow in effectively, as far as infection goes im not sure.

sounds like an onychia Onychia is an inflammation of the nail folds (surrounding tissue of the nail plate) of the nail with formation of pus and laying off of the nail. Onychia consequences from the creation of microscopic pathogens through small wounds.
