The only accurate way to tell would be to take him to a veterinarian. There is a new thing they can do, looking at the reflective "stuff" on the backs of their eyes with a light, that is much more accurate than looking at their teeth. My vet told me they've done studies on this, using cats where the owners new the age but the vet didn't, and they were able to get it right using this method most of the time. With teeth, it's more like half the time.

By the way, I agree with the poster who said if you can't afford to take him to the vet, you can't afford to have a cat. I don't want to be rude, but pets are a big responsibility, and you should take it seriously.

Look at his teeth and gums if they are fairly clean and the gums nice and pink, young, if they are not as clean and the gums are discolored he's probably a bit older. Do not go by whether he has them all or not. I have a 2 year old with no bottoms between his lower canine teeth. He killed a rabbit awhile ago and probably lost them then. Also depending on the color of the cat, he may be getting gray around his nose and mouth just like a dog will as they age, that would mean he is an older kitty.

I know this is going to sound a little weird, but I would know better by seeing him. If you have any pics send them to me. peanut26_99@yahoo.com

Usually checking the cat's teeth will give you the best clue. If they're clean and white, your cat is probably under one year old. You'd be doing the cat and the environment a favor if you were to get him to a feral cat group so he can be neutered and checked out medically. The group like that in my area even helps pay for the cats' food.

You ALWAYS have to take a new pet--especially a stray--to the vet! There is no excuse for not doing it! If you can't afford to do it, you can't afford to have a cat. What if he suddenly gets sick?

look at his teeth and if they are very white then he is pretty young. just guess it by how white his teeth are. and if that doesnt work try to find someone that knows a lot about cats that can tell how old they are.
