I live with my mother, and we watch my nephew 3 days a week. What's a good way to make it easier on both him and my brother when he leaves. My mom is all about spoiling him, or sending him home with a toy, but my brother and I agree that's not the best approach. He's almost three years old, and has about a 15-20 minute ride home that he usually cries all the way.

I don't think ice cream will work...My brother isn't all that into spoiling his kid, which is really why i'm asking for ideas in the first place.

I guess this is technically a 2 part question... I don't spoil the kid. He knows he has me wrapped, but he also knows that when I say no, I mean no. But when grandma's around, I guess that even though I'm trying to do the things his father would, my mom doesn't quite get the no spoiling rule. What's an good way to help her get the hint? I love my mom, and she is my best friend, but I can see the pain in my brother's face when he says no and grandma says yes.

i suggest stop spoiling him over there, or he will never really want to leave. but, if you don't want to, he will eventually get used to the idea of leaving. a lot of little kids do that when leaving a place they really enjoy. a good idea to get him out is to suggest something he really likes and ssays he can have it if he leaves..etc.

My son does that to me becuse he loves his aunty so much and it hurts me that he doesnt want to come home with me he also spends time with his dad but when it comes to me it seems that he doesnt want to come with me. in the end he has a bit of a sook and to know that he will be back in a couple of days makes him feel a bit beter.
