This is considered a no-fault accident, and generally collision covers this. However, uninsured/underinsured property damage coverage can be used, but collision usually applies first. But like an earlier poster said, some states only have uninsured/underinsured bodily injury clauses, which certainly wouldn't help you in getting your car repaired. Since it is a no-fault accident, your rates should not be affected.

What do you need to do? File a police report for a hit and run, get a copy of the report, take your copy and go see your agent, and see what he/she can do for you. If there is any way your policy will cover it, I'm sure your agent will be glad to help you get the ball rolling.

Good luck.

Well, it depends on where you live. Uninsured motorist coverage sometimes covers your vehicle damage- if the state has uninsured motorist property damage (some states only have um bodily injury coverage) AND if you meet the requirements the state sets to use it. Those requirements may include, but are not limited to filing a police report OR may only apply if the person who hit you CAN be identified but has no insurance.

You have to check with your carrier to determine what can be done. However, if UM property damage applies, collision coverage always is used first.

You probably should file with the police, but by now, it probably is to late for the insurance company to do anything, so you may have to pay a big sum.

your comprehensive coverage should cover it .did you get a police report done at the scene ? your comprehensive covers small damages as well as some larger damages the it goes up to colision coverages . it will work the same way as getting a windshield replaced .
if you have a deductible on your coverage the deductible is your part to pay only .

your collision coverage will pay for it but you will have to pay your deductible, your insurance coverage should not go up as this was a not at fault accident
