Cutting is a symptom, not a disorder. However, it can be a symptom of several different disorders. It's kind of like if your ankle hurts, that's a single symptom, but it could be that you've twisted it, sprained it, fractured it, burned it, cut it, or been bitten by an allegator. Similarly, cutting is can be a symptom of a number of different disorders.
Some disorders that might have cutting as a symptom include:
-Depression
-Boarderline Personality Disorder
-Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
-Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
-attention-seeking behavior (there's name for this, but I don't know it)
That is by no means a comprehensive list - it's just a few off the top of my head. The point is that cutting is not a mental disorder itself, but neither is it sufficient to diagnose a single disorder. Just like you couldn't get a definitive diagnosis if you just tell your doctor your ankle hurts. Its a single symptom that's part of a bigger picture.

Well it depends, is the person cutting themselves for pleasure or pain ?
If the answer is pain then it is a symptom & what type of symptom depends on where you cut. If you cut your hands and arms, it's a sign that you want attention, a cry for help.
If you cut places where ppl can not see, such as your inner thighs, it's a serious sign of depression and possible suicide.
Ppl cut as a way to relieve their frustrations in their life, to make the physical pain for a couple of minutes to stop the turmoil of the emotional pain.
Get help for yourself or the person who's cutting.

I agree with the other posts, I think it's a symptom of a problem rather than a stand-alone problem (a la OCD behavior).
I very much hope you find out what is causing the "pressure" to build up that causes you to do this, and address it.
Might I suggest that you substitute "hurting" yourself with tons of exercise instead? When you exercise, your brain secretes endorphines, which are the very things that are released when you cut yourself. You get an endorphine high when you run, ride, etc at a vigorous rate.
And, recovering from sore muscles will leave a lot less scars, and is a much healthier thing for you (duh!).

Borderline Personality Disorder. But cutting itself now seems to be a growing thing among young girls/women. The theory behind it is that the pain makes one feel alive when otherwise numb from whatever life situation or trauma.
Check the web on the disorder. Lots of info

Cutting is a symptom, not a specific disorder. It is usually associated with depression and anxiety, which are diagnoses.

"therapy" for anorexia is in comparison to a pill or shot. that's being put in a rehab midsection (psychological well being scientific institution), and being taught the right thank you to stay healthful. sixteen.8 BMI is two factors under popular, working an hour and quarter-hour isn't popular till you're preparation for a marathon, or perhaps then that's somewhat intense. while you're working/workout this plenty, you are able to desire to consume greater. in case you have low vanity, possibly you are able to initiate going to a therapist a week. The sessions do no longer could revolve around the ingesting concern, yet you are able to desire to get some style of help, ASAP. sturdy luck with this!

alot of times people will cut themselves because the physical pain momentarily takes away the mental pain.
But it is always possible that the person just likes to see the blood? This is probably tied in with something mental though to.
All physical acts of aggression are taken out because they are methods of relieving stess....not that they are all healthy methods but none the less they are methods.

Cutting relates with the obsessive compulsive disorder and with the repression of feeling and emotions.
